Key Responsibilities
- Lead of JIA Team across Asia Pacific - managing a high caliber team across all Asia Pacific countries towards an aligned mission and strategy.
- It will drive strategy, growth, and remediation in line with the Commercial Underwriting team on the JIA business to ensure we optimize the portfolio to maximize profitability, reduce volatility and at the same time, service our clients with best-in-class protection and expertise.
- Creating a common culture across all our operating entities across Asia that is aligned to the underwriting expertise of Sompo International while leveraging the global relationships from Sompo Japan.
- Work closely with the commercial underwriting team and underwriters to optimize the JIA portfolio as a key pillar of the commercial portfolio.
- Work closely with commercial distribution leader to align broker, agency and distribution initiatives and to leverage capabilities across the region.
- Work closely with country level JIA reps across all Asia countries to drive, monitor and hold accountable targets in conjunction with country and regional management.
- Manage communication with Sompo Japan to ensure Marketing department is aware of our strategic goals and leverage global relationship where necessary.
- Work with APAC EXCO to help develop the annual APAC business plan, communicate the plan and regular progress updated to the broader business and board.
- Motivate and lead a high-performance, collaborative and inclusive J Rep team across the countries and ensure the team feels part of a larger regional and global organization.
- Share, collaborate and regularly communicate to share best practice with the head of JIA in UK/Europe and North America.
Area of Responsibility
Key Activities/Elements
1. Leadership
Leadership of all APAC country JIA representative and to drive KPIs (Top line, portfolio mix, new business, remediation strategies and expenses) that are created with the Commercial Underwriting Team and the country and regional leadership team.
2. Management
Management of the JIA teams across the Asia countries in conjunction with regional and country management. SJ J-rep seconded employees will have a solid reporting line to this role with a dotted line to local distribution leaders. Goal setting, monitoring and evaluation responsibilities in accordance with SJ HR system and platform for seconded personnel as well as evaluation within the SJ platform.
3. Client Relationship Management
Management of key JIA relationships and attending to opportunities, issues, and challenges for key JIA relationships across the region.
4. Communicating
Bridging communication across all APAC countries on an aligned strategy. Ensuring SOMPO Japan is aware and understand the direction of our underwriting and marketing strategies. This role will need to work closely with Commercial Underwriting Team and act in accordance with the strategic portfolio direction the underwriting team sets.
5. Ownership
Ownership of executing the JIA strategy, planning, performance and change management, compliance, and risk management.
6. Integrity

Knowledge and skills (general and technical)
- Significant relevant experience at senior level within the group or other relevant business, preferably in an international market, especially with a sales, marketing and/or business development background.
