Job Description
Dart Global Logistics, a leading international logistics service provider with over 40 years of experience in the Asia-Pacific region, is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Head of Group Ocean Freight Procurement & Strategy. Incorporated and registered in Singapore, with its operational headquarters in Colombo, Dart Global Logistics operates 15 offices with a presence across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, China, Africa, and the USA – New York, supported by a strong international freight forwarding network.
Role Description
We are looking for an experienced leader to drive our ocean freight procurement function. In this role, you will drive cost efficiency, service quality and capacity assurance by negotiating with shipping lines, managing vendor relationships and developing procurement strategies aligned with our business goals and global market trends.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Negotiation
- Negotiate ocean freight rates and service contracts with shipping lines and NVOCCs
- Source and manage ocean freight capacity to meet customer demand and RFQs, with a focus on cost-effectiveness, reliability, and efficiency
- Identify and onboard new carriers and vendors to strengthen service offerings and diversify the supply chain
- Ensure procurement contracts align with company compliance, regulatory, and legal standards
Vendor & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key shipping lines, carriers and service providers
- Monitor carrier performance against key metrics (delivery time, reliability, cost) and ensure SLAs are met
- Resolve service, rate, or contractual disputes as they arise
Strategy & Market Analysis
- Develop and implement ocean freight procurement strategies aligned with long-term company goals
- Analyze global market trends, shipping regulations, and geopolitical factors, adjusting strategy as needed
- Partner closely with group management and product stakeholders across DGL offices
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive continuous process improvements
Performance & Reporting
- Continuously evaluate product budgets across DGL offices in line with group growth targets
- Review freight spend regularly and optimize routes and carrier selection for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Provide regular reporting and analysis on freight performance, procurement savings, and market trends against budgeted growth
- Drive corrective actions and performance improvements at the station/product level
Requirements
- Excellent negotiation, vendor management and carrier relationship skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Solid understanding of market trends and factors driving ocean freight pricing and capacity
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools
- Strong knowledge of freight forwarding processes and regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across departments and with external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strategic mindset with the ability to adapt to changing market conditions
