We are seeking an outstanding and inspirational Head of DUCKS Physical Education to lead and further develop our PE programme for children aged 2-7 within DUCKS, the infant school of Dulwich College.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about early years and primary physical education, and who can combine strategic vision with exceptional teaching practice.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of DUCKS and Director of Sport, the Head of DUCKS Physical Education will provide leadership, management and strategic direction for the PE programme, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning, high standards of student wellbeing, inclusion, safeguarding and health and safety across all provision.

The successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of an engaging and innovative PE curriculum, including swimming, that promotes physical literacy, fundamental movement skills and enjoyment of physical activity from the earliest years.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum and Teaching Leadership

  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of an outstanding PE curriculum, including swimming provision.
  • Promote physical literacy as the foundation of learning and development.
  • Ensure high-quality teaching, assessment and reporting across the department.
  • Create inclusive learning experiences that enable every child to experience success and develop confidence, competence and enjoyment through movement.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, support and inspire the DUCKS PE team.
  • Model outstanding teaching practice and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching, professional development and mentoring for colleagues.

Strategic Development

  • Develop and implement a department development plan aligned with College priorities.
  • Contribute to the wider sporting, wellbeing and physical activity provision across the College.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the programme.

Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing

  • Promote the highest standards of safeguarding, student welfare and professional practice.
  • Ensure all PE activities are delivered safely and in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with safeguarding and pastoral teams to support student wellbeing.

About You

We are looking for a leader who:

  • Has significant experience teaching PE within an Early Years and/or Primary setting.
  • Has experience of leading teams and driving curriculum development.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of physical literacy and child development.
  • Is passionate about developing confident, active and healthy young learners.
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Is committed to inclusive practice and high standards of safeguarding.
  • Thrives in a collaborative and internationally minded environment.

Previous experience in a high-performing international school environment and familiarity with swimming programme oversight would be advantageous.
