Group Head of Tax

Location: Singapore/ Malaysia

Our Client is a fast-growing financial services group with operations across multiple presence in ASEAN. As part of its continued growth and increasing regulatory complexity, the organization is seeking an experienced Group Head of Tax to lead its global tax strategy and governance agenda.

The Role

Reporting to senior finance leadership team, the Group Head of Tax will have end-to-end ownership of the group's tax function, covering corporate tax, international tax, transfer pricing, and tax risk management across multiple operating entities. This is a highly strategic role requiring deep technical expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to partner closely with business leaders in a fast paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic tax advisor to senior management and business stakeholders, providing guidance on the tax implications of commercial and structural decisions
  • Oversee groupwide tax compliance, ensuring timely and accurate filings across all jurisdictions
  • Lead international tax matters, including corporate income tax, indirect taxes, statutory reporting, and treaty considerations
  • Design and maintain a robust tax governance and compliance framework, including policies, manuals, and standardized processes
  • Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate tax risks, working closely with external advisors where required
  • Lead and manage tax audits and regulatory engagements, maintaining professional relationships with tax authorities
  • Establish and oversee a defensible transfer pricing framework, including documentation and regulatory compliance
  • Stay ahead of local and international tax developments, ensuring the organization remains compliant and agile
  • Build, develop, and retain a high performing tax team aligned with the group's long term growth plans

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline; CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification required
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive tax experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity
  • Important to have critical thinking and strategic thinking skills as a competency.
  • Strong background at Senior Manager or Director level within a Big 4 firm is highly preferred
  • Proven experience within banking, financial services, fintech, or regulated environments
  • Deep technical expertise in local and international tax regimes, transfer pricing, and tax risk management
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to translate complex tax matters into business relevant advice
  • Comfortable operating in high intensity, fast growth environments with high accountability.
  • A high degree of mobility is to be expected.
