General Manager, Vietnam

Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Industry: Exhibitions and Trade Fair

Position Overview

Our client, a well-established international organization in the exhibitions and trade fair industry, is seeking an experienced and commercially driven General Manager / Managing Director to lead and expand its operations in Vietnam.

This role carries full responsibility for the strategic direction, business performance, and operational management of the Vietnam office, ensuring alignment with global objectives and regional strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the business strategy for the Vietnam operation in line with regional and global objectives.
  • Identify new growth opportunities, partnerships, and market segments to strengthen market presence.
  • Drive long-term sustainable growth and brand positioning in Vietnam.

Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Lead the expansion and development of exhibitions, trade fairs, and related services.
  • Drive revenue growth and profitability, with full accountability for P&L performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, industry partners, associations, and government bodies.

Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, compliance, and service excellence.
  • Ensure the successful planning and execution of exhibitions and related events.
  • Implement corporate governance standards and best practices.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and corporate policies.
  • Identify and manage operational, commercial, and regulatory risks.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing local team.
  • Foster a collaborative, performance-driven, and customer-focused culture.
  • Oversee talent development and succession planning.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent the organization in Vietnam with external stakeholders and at industry events.
  • Maintain close coordination with regional and global leadership teams.
  • Provide regular business updates and market intelligence to senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or related discipline (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 12–15 years of senior management experience, preferably within exhibitions, events, trade promotion, or a related industry.
  • Proven track record of leading a business unit with full P&L responsibility.
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic planning capability.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Vietnam market and business environment.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent command of English; Vietnamese proficiency is a plus.
