Job Description

The General Manager (Afloat Repair Division) is responsible for leading all afloat repair operations with full Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability. This role ensures operational excellence, financial sustainability, and client satisfaction. The General Manager will manage budgets, optimize costs, drive revenue growth, and safeguard profitability while maintain compliance and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Financial & P&L Management

  • Full ownership of divisional P&L, including revenue, cost, and margin performance.
  • Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Monitor project profitability, ensuring repair contracts deliver positive margins.
  • Implement cost-control measures while maintaining service quality and safety.
  • Report monthly financial performance, variances, and corrective actions to senior management.
  • Identify new revenue streams and business opportunities to expand afloat repair services.

Operational Leadership

  • Direct and manage all afloat repair projects, ensuring timely completion and compliance with industry standards.
  • Oversee vessel repair schedules, resource allocation, and workflow arrangements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Project & Risk Management

  • Draft, review, and enforce contracts, quotations, and operational documentation with clear liability allocation.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks, downtime, and cost exposures.
  • Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions when necessary.

Manpower & Resource Allocation

  • Lead workforce planning, including overtime management and skill development.
  • Supervise technical teams, ensuring competency and productivity.
  • Coordinate with HR for recruitment, training, and succession planning.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding afloat repair projects.
  • Negotiate commercial terms to maximize profitability and protect company interests.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through transparent communication and service excellence.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and implement operational improvement initiatives.
  • Drive innovation in repair methods, tools, and processes.
  • Align afloat repair operations with long-term company goals, including expansion into new vessel construction.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in marine repair, shipyard operations, or offshore services, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing P&L, budgets, and financial performance.
  • Strong knowledge of afloat repair techniques, vessel systems, and industry regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
