Job Description

A leadingFinancial Advisory & Wealth Management platform is seeking an experienced General Counsel to lead the Group's legal function and work closely with the CEO, Board and senior management team on the Group's strategic, commercial and legal priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical and commercially focused legal advice to the CEO, Board and senior management across the Group
  • Advise on corporate and commercial matters, including material contracts, partnerships, outsourcing arrangements, employment matters, data privacy and technology
  • Oversee corporate governance and corporate secretarial matters across Group entities
  • Work closely with Risk and Compliance team on matters relating to the Group's regulatory engagements
  • Manage material disputes, investigations and litigation, including the appointment and management of external counsel
  • Support acquisitions, investments integrations and regional expansion
  • Lead the Group legal function and develop appropriate legal processes, policies, templates and external counsel arrangements as the business grows

Candidate Profile

  • Singapore-qualified lawyer, ideally with 15+ years PQE, with a combination of private practice and in-house experience preferred
  • Significant in-house experience within financial services, insurance, wealth management, fintech or another MAS regulated business
  • Good knowledge of the Singapore legal and regulatory environment and experience working with MAS-regulated businesses
  • Broad corporate and commercial legal experience, with exposure to governance, regulatory, disputes and contentious matters.
  • Commercial, pragmatic and hands-on, with the ability to provide clear advice, balance legal risk with business objectives and personally drive key matters
  • Experience building or developing a legal function in a growing organization would be highly valued; financial advisory, insurance distribution or wealth management experience would be advantageous
  • Some corporate secretarial / governance experience will also be required
