Job description:
The Freight Forwarding Operations Executive is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of import and export shipments, with a strong focus on import cargo handling, Singapore Customs permits, and air and sea freight bookings. The role ensures timely, compliant, and cost-effective movement of cargo while maintaining high service standards and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities Cargo Operations
- Handle import, export, and transhipment shipments via air and sea freight from booking to final delivery.
- Coordinate cargo receiving, checking, storage, and release in accordance with shipping documents and customs permits.
- Monitor shipment progress and proactively resolve operational delays or discrepancies.
Customs & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare, submit, and manage Singapore Customs permits (Import, Export, Transhipment) via TradeNet.
- Verify cargo details against commercial invoices, packing lists, and transport documents.
- Ensure compliance with Singapore Customs regulations, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and company SOPs.
- Report and manage cargo discrepancies in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Freight Booking & Documentation
- Arrange air and sea freight bookings with airlines, shipping lines, and overseas agents.
- Prepare and verify Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, manifests, and shipping instructions.
- Coordinate with carriers for vessel/flight schedules, cut-off times, and documentation requirements.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines, hauliers, warehouses, and customs brokers.
- Act as the primary operational contact for customers on shipment status and requirements.
- Coordinate last-mile delivery and container returns.
Costing & Administration
- Assist with freight costing, billing verification, and operational reporting.
- Maintain accurate shipment records, filing, and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
Safety & Quality
- Adhere to Workplace Safety & Health (WSH), ISO, and internal operational procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and corrective/preventive actions.
Requirements
Education & Certification
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Maritime Studies, or related field.
- Basic or Advanced Cargo Course Certificate preferred.
- TradeNet declaration knowledge is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in freight forwarding or logistics operations.
- Hands-on experience in import cargo handling, customs permits, and air & sea freight bookings.
- Experience handling FCL, LCL, and air freight shipments.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of freight forwarding processes and documentation.
- Familiarity with HS codes, customs procedures, and trade compliance.
- Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.
- Strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and freight forwarding systems (e.g. CargoWise).
