Job Description

The Kaskida project is a multi-billion dollar new deepwater hub in the Gulf of America (GoA). This project has just entered bp's Execute phase and presents an exciting opportunity for world class delivery through standardized design and improved ways of working. This is to be achieved through a program work construct, with this project being the first in a series of planned new hubs, where a design one, build many approach is to be adopted. The Kaskida development consists of a column stabilized moored semisubmersible Floating Production Unit (FPU) intended for production of hydrocarbons, supported by subsea production systems, associated wells, and midstream services operated export pipelines.

The FPU will be built in a contractor yard in Singapore, and the project team is recruiting a site construction engineer to work within the bp FPU construction team. The role will be full-time based at the Singapore build location and support the project until FPU sailaway.

The Site Construction Engineer reports to the Project Construction Manager (PCM) and is a member of the Construction Team. Overall management and direction will be through the PCM, with specific scopes directed by the Area or Discipline Leads. The Site Construction Engineer supports the PCM to delivery safe, quality and efficient construction through the oversight, influence and pro-active management of contractor HSSE performance, quality, cost & schedule.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Promoting project HSE objectives and demonstrating the bp safety leadership principles to support the PCMs SSL role to set a positive safety culture.
  • Input to Right First Time build methodology and workshops, providing support to oversight of action closure to build a pro-active quality culture and ensure build conformance.
  • Oversight of Contractor deliverables and ensure alignment with bp processes, procedures, and expectations on safety and quality.
  • Identifies fabrication/construction learnings, networking with the community of practice and engaging with specialists when required and within area of responsibility.
  • Input to construction readiness programme and support oversight of action closure to enable safe and quality fabrication delivery
  • Leads the construction self-verification and oversight programme within area of responsibility. Reviews output and works with the team to propose & update oversight schedule.
  • Participates in construction reviews, including constructability reviews, and contributes to other functional reviews as required.
  • Support PCM in PDCP conformance. Compilation of reports as required and author/review key construction delivery documents.
  • Input and support to influencing Contractor in delivering robust constructability and construction execution plans.
  • Participates in monitoring Contractor construction safety, quality, schedule, and costs within area of responsibility to ensure delivery within the plan. Highlights key concerns to construction leadership.
  • Ensures conformance to bp requirements within area of responsibility and drives compliance with all technical integrity and HSE expectations
  • Identifies fabrication/construction execution risks at appropriate project stages and supports risk management activities within area of responsibility
  • Support the PCM/CL to performance manage Contractor delivery for the construction scope elements according to the plan.
  • Work with bp quality team to support their pro-active oversight, training and R1T walks.
  • Participates in maintaining relationships with stakeholders as appropriate, supports co-ordination of key Contractor and construction interfaces within area of responsibility.
  • Manages the bp lifting assurance oversight process at site.
  • Support the resolution of technical issues and liaising with engineering.
  • Participates in bp risk assessment reviews and supports closure of mitigating actions as required.
  • Use the role as an opportunity to develop in safety and quality leadership.

Experience & Role Requirements:

  • 5+ years in construction delivery/management of large scale greenfield and brownfield onshore plants, fabrication yards and pipelines projects.
  • Demonstrated construction experience in executing major projects for greenfield offshore facilities.
  • Strong safety leadership for both personal and process safety.
  • Understands HSSE excellence during construction, and delivery of construction quality.
  • Able to plan pro-active quality assurance and understand Right First Time methodology.
  • Understands key HSE and quality risks for EPC build at fabricator site.
  • Ability to prioritise construction work effectively.
  • Can work within an Agile framework applying the tools and techniques.
  • Strong people skills, ability to lead by example and influence others.
  • Demonstrates the ability to listen, learn and take lessons actively from wider bp to maximise value.
  • Ability to interface with EPC Contractor Construction leads to influence safety, quality, and performance outcomes.
  • Can coordinate planning activities on a daily / weekly basis and linking into schedule.
  • Able to coordinate resolution of technical issues and liaising with engineering.
  • Understand key contractual risks and required bp behaviours.

Essential Education:

  • Relevant engineering degree or construction education.
  • PMP, Chartered Engineer or equivalent - or evidence of working towards this.
