The Applied AI team at Goldman Sachs sits at the intersection of AI, quantitative finance, and engineering. We turn advanced AI/ML capabilities into scalable, reliable, governed, and commercially impactful solutions across the firm.

The team partners with applied scientists, quantitative researchers, trading, sales, and platform engineering teams to accelerate the full AI/ML lifecycle, from experimentation to production deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

Your Impact

As a Software Engineering Manager in Applied AI, you will lead engineering efforts that make the organization more scalable, productive, and production-ready.

You will bridge applied science and platform engineering, helping research ideas move from prototype to reliable production systems. Your success will be measured by improved execution velocity, stronger ML production readiness, and repeatable engineering patterns that scale AI/ML impact across the firm.

Principal Responsibilities

• Lead engineering foundations for Applied AI, including experimentation workflows, ML pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and production integration patterns.

• Partner with applied scientists, quantitative researchers, ML engineers, and platform teams to translate research needs into scalable engineering solutions.

• Improve ML production readiness across deployment, monitoring, governance, versioning, reproducibility, CI/CD, rollback, and operational support.

• Promote engineering excellence in software quality, testing, documentation, reliability, observability, data quality, and incident management.

• Lead and mentor engineering talent while driving cross-functional execution across ambiguous, high-impact AI/ML initiatives.

Core Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Quantitative Finance, or a related technical field.

• Experience leading engineering teams building platforms, infrastructure, tools, or production systems for ML, data science, quantitative research, or AI.

• Strong software engineering background, including Python, APIs, distributed systems, testing, CI/CD, observability, and production support.

• Deep understanding of the ML lifecycle, including data, features, experimentation, evaluation, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.

• Ability to bridge applied science and platform engineering, turning exploratory workflows into scalable, reliable, governed production systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Min. 8 years of software engineering experience, including team leadership in ML infrastructure, data engineering, quantitative technology, platform engineering, or applied AI.

• Experience building internal platforms or productivity tools that improve experimentation velocity, reproducibility, deployment reliability, and operational scale.

• Familiarity with financial markets, trading, pricing, risk, market data, or quantitative research workflows.

• Hands-on experience with MLOps tools such as model registries, experiment tracking, workflow orchestration, Kubernetes, Spark, Ray, Airflow, Argo, or similar technologies.

• Experience in regulated environments with strong security, controls, governance, auditability, and resilience requirements.
