Job Description

Financial Crime Analyst

Reports to: Group Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)

About the client - Our client is a multi-jurisdictional fintech payments platform operating across Canada, Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong.

About the role

They're hiring a Financial Crime Analyst / Manager to own transaction monitoring end to end — live and post-transaction monitoring, AML/CTF alerts, and fraud alerts (including card fraud) — across all jurisdictions in which we operate.

You will own transaction monitoring for the Group end to end — live and post-transaction monitoring, AML/CTF alerts, and fraud alerts (including card fraud) across all jurisdictions — ensuring suspicious activity is identified, investigated, and escalated accurately and on time, so that regulatory, reputational, and financial exposure is caught before it materialises.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Design and operation transaction monitoring framework for cross-border payment/remittance flows, including stablecoin-based transfers, in line with applicable jurisdictions regulatory requirements
  • Handle the dispositioning alerts generated by their monitoring system with confidence, with documented decisions and clear audit trails for every disposition
  • Investigate and escalate suspicious activity — money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions exposure, and fraud (including card fraud, chargebacks, and account takeover patterns)
  • Prepare Suspicious Transaction Reports (STR) and/or other reports (as appropriate) for the MLRO to submit to the relevant jurisdiction's financial intelligence unit where required
  • Build and refine detection typologies, including crypto/stablecoin-specific red flags (wallet clustering, mixer exposure, rapid in-out patterns)
  • Build coverage models and flag rate analysis from historical transaction data including pre-live calibration of thresholds and rules
  • Act as the subject matter expert for transaction monitoring in regulatory examinations, MLRO-led reviews, and internal risk reviews
  • Maintain clear, chronological, evidence-based case files that would withstand regulator scrutiny
  • Escalate time-sensitive findings directly to the MLRO with a clear risk-based recommendation
  • Support the MLRO in periodic reporting obligations to relevant jurisdictions regulators including AML/CFT annual reports and risk assessments

What you'll need

  • 3-5 years working knowledge of AML/CTF obligations — comfortable with STR/SAR/SMR thresholds and timelines; multi-jurisdictional exposure (FINTRAC, AUSTRAC, MAS, AMLO) is a strong advantage
  • Practical experience with transaction monitoring systems and alert investigation.
  • Strong analytical skills — comfortable working through large transaction datasets (spreadsheets, SQL, or monitoring-tool queries) to find patterns, not just clear single alerts
  • Sharp, factual, jargon-free written communication — able to produce a filing-ready STR and/or other reports (as appropriate)
  • Sound judgment under ambiguity, and the independence to hold a compliance decision under commercial pressure
  • Comfort working across multiple regulatory frameworks at once without conflating them
  • CAMS or equivalent certification preferred

Nice to have

  • Hands-on card fraud experience (CNP fraud, chargebacks, BIN attacks)
  • Experience spanning both fiat rail monitoring and on-chain/stablecoin transaction analysis
