About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Financial Analyst with prior audit experience and hands-on exposure to the commodities industry. The role supports financial reporting, performance analysis, risk monitoring, and internal controls across trading and operational activities.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting fundamentals with a practical understanding of commodities trading, inventory, and pricing dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reports
- Perform variance analysis on trading results, margins, inventory valuation, and operating costs
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Provide financial insights to support trading and commercial decisions
Commodities & Trading Support
- Analyze trading performance by product, counterparty, and region
- Monitor inventory positions, valuation methods (e.g. FIFO, weighted average), and price movements
- Support mark-to-market analysis and exposure tracking where applicable
- Work closely with trading, operations, and trade finance teams
Audit, Controls & Compliance
- Leverage prior audit experience to strengthen internal controls and financial processes
- Prepare audit schedules and liaise with external auditors
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies
- Support improvement of documentation, reconciliations, and control frameworks
Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend process enhancements in reporting and controls
- Assist with system improvements, automation, and data integrity initiatives
Requirements
Experience & Background
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline
- Minimum 36 years of relevant experience, including:
- Audit experience
- Commodities industry experience
- Experience in a fast-paced trading environment is an advantage
Technical Skills
- Strong accounting and financial analysis fundamentals
- Solid understanding of commodities trading concepts (inventory, pricing, margins, exposure)
- Strong Knowledge of IFRS or relevant accounting standards and tax
- Adoption of AI for Process automation and Report building
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail with the ability to see the commercial big picture
- Good communication skills; able to work cross-functionally
- Proactive, hands-on, and comfortable in a lean organization
