Job Summary
Lead and manage comprehensive finance and accounting operations for shipping activities, delivering accurate financial reporting, strategic cost control, and compliance. Drive financial planning and team development to support business growth and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Oversee finance and accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to management for informed decision-making
- Develop, manage, and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans aligned with shipping operations
- Analyze operational costs such as vessel charter, bunker fuel, port charges, freight, and logistics to optimize expenses
- Conduct financial analysis and provide strategic recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company financial policies to mitigate risks
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and foreign currency transactions related to international shipping activities
- Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate smooth statutory audits and regulatory reporting
- Implement and enhance internal controls and financial procedures to safeguard company assets
- Support business expansion initiatives by evaluating financial viability of new shipping routes, partnerships, and investments
- Supervise and develop finance team members to foster high performance and professional growth
Required competencies and certifications
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably within shipping, logistics, freight, or trading industries
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, cost analysis, and financial controls
- Experience managing international transactions, foreign exchange exposure, and multi-currency accounts
- Proficient in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Familiarity with shipping operational costs such as chartering, bunker fuel, port charges, and freight revenue recognition
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent
