Job Summary
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing cash flow, and supporting business decision-making. The role requires close collaboration with operations, sales, and management teams to ensure financial discipline and profitability.
Reporting To: Managing Director / General Manager
Team Size: 1-2 finance/admin staff
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Manage the full set of accounts, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and Fixed Assets.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing.
- Monitor financial performance and provide variance analysis against budgets and forecasts.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Ensure timely statutory reporting (audit, tax, corporate filings).
2. Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Monitor daily cash flow and liquidity requirements.
- Manage banking relationships, facilities, and transactions.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and working capital analysis.
- Ensure sufficient funding for operational requirements and vendor payments.
3. Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process.
- Prepare financial forecasts and business performance reports.
- Analyze revenue, costs, and profitability by customer, trade lane, and business segment.
- Support management in strategic planning and investment decisions.
4. Shipping & Logistics Financial Control
- Monitor freight revenue, carrier costs, port charges, and operational expenses.
- Review shipment profitability and gross profit margins.
- Ensure accurate invoicing, accruals, and cost allocation.
- Support management in pricing analysis and contract evaluations.
5. Credit Control & Accounts Receivable
- Oversee customer credit limits and payment terms.
- Monitor collections and aging reports.
- Work closely with sales and operations teams to reduce overdue accounts and bad debt exposure.
6. Taxation & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, GST/VAT requirements, and statutory filings.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax agents, and regulatory authorities.
- Manage annual audit processes and statutory reporting requirements.
7. Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Establish and maintain effective internal controls and financial policies.
- Monitor financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and corporate governance standards.
8. Team Leadership
- Supervise and develop finance and accounting staff.
- Provide guidance and training to ensure efficient finance operations.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent) preferred.
- Minimum 5-8 years of finance and accounting experience, preferably in shipping, freight forwarding, logistics, supply chain or maritime industries.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, taxation, budgeting, and cash flow management.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Self-starter, hands-on, able to work with non-finance operations team in a flat structure.
