Position Overview
The Finance Manager reports directly to the Head of Trading Operations and Business Services and is responsible for overseeing the company's finance, accounting, treasury, and financial control functions. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong governance, and commercial support for a growing commodity trading business.
What You'll Be Doing
- Daily Operations & Cash Management: Review the company's cash position, customer collections, upcoming payments, and banking activities to ensure trading operations have required liquidity.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Front Office, Middle Office, and Operations teams to ensure every executed trade is accurately reflected in financial records.
- Period-End Close & Reporting: Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, reconcile accounts, prepare financial statements, and produce management reports.
- FP&A & Strategic Guidance: Partner with business leaders to develop budgets and forecasts, explain financial results, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions.
- Stakeholder Management: Work with banks, external auditors, tax advisors, and government agencies to ensure compliance while maintaining strong internal financial controls.
- Process Improvement: Act as a key finance leader to improve ERP systems, automate workflows, and build scalable finance practices to support long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Perform the full spectrum of accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory and management financial statements.
- Prepare financial analyses, variance reports, KPIs, and management reports for strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and Group accounting policies.
- Maintain the company's chart of accounts, accounting policies, and financial reporting structures.
2. Accounts Payable, Receivable & Treasury
- Oversee AP and AR activities, including billing, collections, vendor payments, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts; manage daily cash positions and banking activities.
- Align and coordinate cash management activities with AP Treasury.
- Administer trade finance transactions, including Letters of Credit (LCs), bank guarantees, and documentary collections.
- Coordinate directly with banks and financial institutions on treasury and financing matters.
3. Trading Accounting & Financial Control
- Record and reconcile physical trading transactions (purchases, sales, logistics costs, and settlements).
- Account for derivative/hedging transactions and mark-to-market (MTM) adjustments.
- Reconcile trading positions to ensure accurate and complete financial records.
- Monitor AR aging, customer credit exposures, and escalate potential credit risks.
4. Tax, Audit & Compliance
- Prepare and coordinate statutory tax filings and regulatory submissions alongside external tax advisors.
- Lead annual statutory audits and coordinate with external auditors for timely completion.
- Maintain complete documentation to maintain audit readiness and internal policy compliance.
- Develop and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls in collaboration with Corporate Services.
5. Systems & Process Improvement
- Serve as the key user for ERP and accounting systems, ensuring data integrity.
- Identify and drive process enhancements, reporting efficiencies, and automation opportunities.
6. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Lead the annual budgeting process in coordination with Trading Front Office and Corporate Services.
- Prepare and update quarterly Long-Term Forecasts (LTF) incorporating commodity price changes, volumes, and market conditions.
- Align budgets and forecasts with parent company (AP) Finance.
- Monitor actual performance against budget/forecast, highlighting risks and opportunities.
7. Compliance & Standards
- Conform to company policies for Quality, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Information Security based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 27001 standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: At least a Degree / Professional Qualification in Accounting.
- License / Certification: CPA certification is a plus.
- Professional Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in finance and accounting roles, preferably within commodity trading and energy trading.
- Proven experience in managing end-to-end accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and audit coordination.
- Experience with trade-related accounting, derivatives/hedging, trade finance, and working capital management is highly desirable.
