TheFinance Manager is responsible for handling the financial and accounting functionsof the company, a Singapore-based textile trading business engaged in theimport, export and distribution of fabrics, yarns and related textile products.The role owns financial planning, reporting, cash and trade-finance management,statutory compliance and internal controls, and works closely with the FinancialController and business units to support profitable trading decisions in afast-moving, multi-faceted trading environment.
. Financial Strategy &Business Partnering - advise management on financial implications of tradingdecisions, pricing, and new supplier/customer arrangements.
. Financial Planning &Analysis - own budgeting, forecasting and margin analysis across product linesand trading routes.
. Treasury & TradeFinance - manage working capital, banking facilities, letters of credit, trustreceipts and foreign exchange exposure.
. Financial Reporting& Compliance - ensure accurate, timely management and statutory accounts inline with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) and regulatoryrequirements.
. Risk, Controls &Governance - maintain a strong internal control environment, credit riskdiscipline and fraud prevention.
. Team Leadership - lead,train and develop the finance and accounts team, and manage outsourced serviceproviders (auditors, tax agents, company secretary).
. Systems & ProcessImprovement - drive automation and continuous improvement of finance andERP/accounting systems and processes.
3.1 Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annualmanagement accounts, financial statements and board reporting packs within setdeadlines.
- Oversee the full accounting cycle - general ledger,accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, bank reconciliations andmonth-end/year-end closing.
- Monitoring Inter-company transactions andreconciliation of inter-co balances.
- Thorough scrutiny of Freight bills and identifyingreasons for variances, if any.
- Checking bank charges and overheads to ensure itscorrectness.
- Ensure financial statements comply with SingaporeFinancial Reporting Standards (SFRS) and Companies Act requirements.
- Manage stock/inventory valuation and costing forimported and traded textile goods, including landed cost computation (freight,duty, insurance).
- Coordinate the annual statutory audit and act asprimary liaison with external auditors, resolving audit queries andimplementing recommendations.
3.2 Cash Flow,Treasury & Trade Finance
- Monitor daily cash position and working capital toensure sufficient liquidity for purchase of goods, supplier payments andoperating expenses.
- Manage trade finance instruments critical to textiletrading - Letters of Credit (LC), Trust Receipts (TR), invoice financing, bankguarantees and export documentary credit.
- Maintain and negotiate banking relationships and creditfacilities/trade lines with banks and financial institutions.
- Manage foreign exchange exposure arising from USD/othercurrency purchases and sales, including forward contracts and hedging whereappropriate, given the currency risk inherent in textile import/export trading.
- Monitor customer credit terms, credit limits andcollections minimise bad debt and overdue receivables through active creditcontrol.
3.3 Statutory& Tax Compliance
- Manage corporate income tax computations and filings(Form C-S/C) with IRAS, including tax planning and claiming of availablereliefs/incentives.
- Ensure compliance with ACRA filing requirements (annualreturns, XBRL financial statements) in coordination with the company secretary.
3.4 Budgeting,Forecasting & Business Analysis
- Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic rollingforecasts in collaboration with sales and procurement teams.
- Prepare gross margin and product/customer profitabilityanalysis to support pricing and sourcing decisions.
- Provide variance analysis against budget/forecast andhighlight risks and opportunities to management.
- Evaluate the financial viability of new markets,suppliers, customers and business opportunities.
3.5 InternalControls, Risk & Governance
- Design, implement and monitor internal controls andStandard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across procurement, sales, inventory andcash handling.
- Safeguard company assets and inventory through periodicstock counts, reconciliations and physical verification.
- Assess and mitigate key business risks, includingcounterparty credit risk, currency risk and inventory obsolescence risk.
3.6 TeamLeadership & Stakeholder Management
- Supervise, mentor and develop the finance and accountsteam plan workload and set performance objectives.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, companysecretary, banks and insurers as the key finance point of contact.
- Support the Financial Controller with ad-hoc financialanalysis, board papers and presentations for management and shareholders.
. Degree in Accountancy,Finance, or related field professional qualification (CPA Singapore, ACCA, CAor equivalent) preferred.
. Minimum 8-10 years ofprogressive finance/accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in amanagerial capacity.
. Prior experience in atrading company (textiles, commodities, apparel or similar import/exportbusiness) strongly preferred.
. Sound working knowledgeof Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS), IRAS tax/GST regulations,ACRA requirements and trade finance instruments (LC/TR).
. Proficiency inaccounting/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, ORACLE, or similar) and advanced MicrosoftExcel skills.
. Strong analytical andcommercial acumen, with the ability to interpret trading margins and currencyexposure.
. High attention to detailand integrity in financial reporting and controls.
. Effective communicationand stakeholder management skills, able to engage confidently with banks,auditors and senior management.
. Strong leadership skillswith the ability to build and develop a small finance team.
. Ability to work underpressure and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced trading environment.
