A capable Fashion Designer should understand the principles of design. In addition, they should be able to apply this knowledge to creating aesthetically pleasing and functional pieces. A Fashion Designer will work closely with a design team. This will enable them to excel at their duties, which include the following:
1. Researching current fashion trends and determining what consumers will like
2. Collaborating with the design team to develop ideas for new products based on research data
3. Discussing design, alteration, or repair requirements with customers to ensure that their specifications are met.
4. Accurately recording customers measurements, instructions, and preferences.
5. Designing sketches for new products with a design team
6. Creating clothing patterns for mass production
7. Testing and deciding on fabrics, colors, patterns and textures for each design
8. Overseeing the production of designs, including carrying out fittings, determining prices and managing marketing
9. Maintaining relationships with vendors, suppliers and models. Communicating technical design information for customer samples
10. Working with team members to design clothes for upcoming seasons.
11. Selecting fabrics and trims
12. Overseeing the prototype sample process
13. Creating cost sheets and product list
14 Modifying garments according to customer instructions, which includes tapering pant legs, lining sheer garments, removing pockets, and adding padding. Altering garments to improve comfort and fit, which includes shortening sleeves or straps, narrowing lapels, as well as taking in or letting out seams.
15. Supervise overall trading business under the same Company
