Role Overview

The Experience Director (SEO/GEO & AI Search) is a senior leadership role responsible for driving business growth, shaping product innovation, and leading integrated search strategies that win visibility and influence across both traditional search results and LLM-driven discovery surfaces. This role owns the transformation from keyword-centric SEO to AI-native discoverability, ensuring client brands are accurately represented and consistently cited in generative experiences (e.g., AI Overviews and answer engines). You will partner with media, CXM, data, content, and technology teams to build an end-to-end source-of-truth ecosystem—covering technical foundations, entity clarity, content engineering, and digital PR/authority signals—so that machines can reliably retrieve and synthesize client information. The role owns commercial success, strategic partnerships, and capability development, and is accountable for defining modern measurement frameworks (including AI visibility and citation KPIs) and scaling repeatable playbooks, tooling, and automation to keep the agency at the forefront of rapidly evolving search and AI ecosystems.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

1. Business Growth & Pipeline Management

  • Own and drive GEO/SEO revenue targets and pipeline development
  • Lead new business pitches, proposals, and strategic client engagements
  • Identify market opportunities and develop strategies for GEO/SEO offerings
  • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline across key markets and industries

2. Product & Solution Development

  • Lead the development of GEO/SEO products, frameworks, and methodologies
  • Drive innovation in AI search (LLMs, AI Overviews, generative search optimisation)
  • Package scalable solutions (e.g. GEO tracking, AI content strategy)
  • Collaborate with global, regional, and local teams to evolve service offerings

3. Strategic Partnerships & Ecosystem Development

  • Manage key partnerships with platforms (e.g. AI search tools, data providers)
  • Identify and onboard new partners to strengthen GEO/SEO capabilities

4. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing GEO/SEO team
  • Define team structure, capability development, and hiring strategy
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning

5. Client & Strategic Oversight

  • Provide senior strategic guidance across key accounts
  • Act as executive sponsor for high-value clients
  • Ensure alignment between client business objectives and GEO/SEO strategies

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in SEO and digital marketing, with proven senior leadership responsibility.
  • Deep expertise in SEO fundamentals (technical, content, off-page), combined with demonstrated experience leading the evolution of SEO strategy in response to AI-driven search and GEO.
  • Proven track record in driving business growth, including leading pitches, strategic client engagements, commercial proposals, and ownership of revenue targets or P&L.
  • Clear strategic point of view on the shift from keyword-centric SEO to AI-native discoverability, including the ability to guide clients through changes in visibility, attribution, and measurement.
  • Experience shaping or leading AI-search-informed strategies (e.g. AI Overviews, generative search, conversational discovery), with the ability to set direction even if not hands-on day-to-day.
  • Strong executive stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence C-level and senior client stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of integrated marketing across owned, paid, and earned channels and how SEO/GEO supports broader business outcomes.
  • Proven experience building, leading, and scaling high-performing teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.

Develop-on-the-job (expected to evolve within the role)

  • Deep technical mastery of LLM mechanics, such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), knowledge graph engineering, and hallucination mitigation.
  • Ownership of advanced GEO tooling ecosystems and large-scale AI automation frameworks.
  • External thought leadership in AI search and GEO, including industry speaking and published points of view.
  • Development of proprietary AI-search IP and experimental GEO methodologies.
