Team & Role Overview

SMBC AC is seeking an individual with vision, energy, and ambition to join our Portfolio Risk Management (PRM) Team as EVP to lead, develop and improve the portfolio risk management activities of our business. PRM forms an integral part of both the delivery of our commercial strategy and the holistic management of our customer base. Reporting to the Head of PRM and located in Singapore or Hong Kong, the position of EVP PRM is a senior position in SMBC AC and is a senior member of the PRM team.

The PRM team manage portfolio risk including credit, asset and market risk analysis and restructuring activities. The team drive commercial decision making, including investment in aircraft assets and everchanging appropriate allocation of the portfolio based on our specialist understanding of our global customer base and the aviation industry. This ensures that SMBC AC has a balanced view of the risks which are an inherent aspect of the industry and ensures efficient approvals of customer transactions and resolution to any customer issues in an appropriate and timely manner.

The successful candidate will join SMBC AC at an exciting and transformative time for our company and our position in our industry. They will be responsible for owning portfolio risk outcomes within the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions. Where required, the EVP PRM will lead complex restructuring cases, balancing commercial objectives with disciplined risk management, asset value protection and reputational considerations, keeping management and shareholders apprised at all times.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

• Lead and continuously develop a bestinclass regional portfolio risk team, with strong capability through challenging personal development plans across airline credit analysis, portfolio analytics, scenario modelling and restructuring execution.
• Own portfolio risk outcomes across the region of responsibility, with clear accountability for optimising riskadjusted returns, capital allocation, value preservation and resilience through the cycle.
• Lead the active management of portfolio composition, including customer, geographic, assettype and leaseprofile concentrations, ensuring portfolio risks are actively monitored, challenged and mitigated.
• Implement robust earlywarning and intervention mechanisms to identify emerging customer and portfolio risks, ensuring proactive engagement and mitigation in advance of formal restructuring or default events.
• Lead complex airline restructuring and repossession situations within the region, setting clear strategies, maintaining momentum and preserving asset value while balancing commercial, legal and reputational considerations.
• Manage key shareholder group relationships acting as an ambassador for SMBC AC and its risk management capabilities.
• Champion a customerfirst culture by proactively deepening engagement with key airline partners, ensuring their strategic priorities and operational realities are fully understood and consistently reflected in portfolio risk decisions, while balancing commercial outcomes with longterm relationship value.

Qualifications & Experience

• 10+ year aviation experience with previous experience in risk management for an aircraft lessor.
• Proven people leadership experience.
• Strong track record in project management and reporting with customer centric approach to business.
• Ability to inspire trust and confidence at all levels through natural authority and to drive change through others.
• Strong commitment to deliver consistently and exceed targets with a drive for continuous improvement.
