Job Description

About The Role

We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Team Lead for our D2E Analyze team – someone who leads and manages a small team of engineers while staying close to the code, architecture, and production systems. You'll report to the SVP Engineering, own the technical direction of the Analyze team, and work directly with senior leadership at D4L and with our partners, including Mount Sinai's AIR·MS program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction and architecture decisions for the D2E Analyze team, and stay hands-on: write production TypeScript, review code, and ship features yourself.
  • Lead performance engineering for analytical workloads at scale – profiling, tuning, and troubleshooting query performance across our database stack.
  • Build and maintain the team's infrastructure: CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes deployments, cloud resources on Azure.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for Mount Sinai's engineering and research teams, translating requirements into engineering decisions and managing timelines across time zones.
  • Lead, grow, and support a team of software engineers – mentoring, giving feedback, and helping them do their best work.
  • Contribute to the engineering roadmap and longer-term technical strategy for D2E.

What You Must Bring

  • Proven experience leading a software engineering team in a production environment, while remaining hands-on as an engineer yourself. Strong stakeholder management skills - comfortable representing engineering to external partners and non-technical stakeholders, and able to hold your ground on technical trade-offs.
  • Deep, production-level TypeScript experience across both frontend and backend, including building RESTful/GraphQL APIs.
  • Deep, hands-on production experience optimizing analytical workloads across both column-store (e.g., ClickHouse, DuckDB, BigQuery, Redshift, SAP HANA) and row-store databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server) — schema design, indexing and partitioning strategies, execution plan analysis, query tuning, materialization, and day-to-day administration.
  • Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines, using GitHub Actions or similar tools.
  • Preferably with experience managing cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes and a major cloud provider such as Azure.

YOU WILL STAND OUT IF YOU HAVE

  • Knowledge of OMOP CDM, HL7 FHIR, or other healthcare data standards (ICD, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNORM, DICOM, CDISC).
  • Experience with SAP HANA specifically.
  • Experience with unstructured health data / clinical NLP.
  • Background in health data analytics, clinical research informatics, or real-world evidence platforms.
  • Contributions to open-source projects.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • This role requires regular on-site work in our Singapore office.
  • This role involves close collaboration with our German team and international partners across regions.
  • Applicants should currently be based in Singapore.

WHY YOU WILL LOVE WORKING WITH US

This role offers the opportunity to lead a talented team while influencing how engineering evolves across the organization. You will play an important role in improving systems, processes, and collaboration - helping us build better technology and stronger teams.

  • What we offer:
  • High level of personal responsibility and creative freedom
  • Work on socially impactful projects in the healthcare sector
  • Collaboration with leading partners from research, technology, and healthcare
  • A diverse, interdisciplinary, and international team working across three locations (Potsdam, Berlin, and Singapore)
  • Flexible working models with the option to work from home
  • Permanent employment contract with vacation leave of 18 - 24 days per year, depending on your length of service
  • Attractive employee benefits, e.g. comprehensive health insurance, gym and home broadband subsidies, attractive education budget
