Engineering Director

• Working Hours: Monday to Friday
• Working Location: West
• Remuneration package: Up to $16,000 + AWS + VB

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute engineering strategies, technical roadmaps and operating models that support business growth and delivery objectives.
• Lead architectural design and governance for enterprise software platforms, high transaction systems, API integrations and cloud based solutions.
• Ensure systems are scalable, secure, highly available and resilient through sound architecture, technical standards and risk management practices.
• Partner with senior management, business stakeholders and clients to define technical direction, resolve complex issues and ensure successful project delivery.
• Lead and develop a multi team engineering organisation comprising software developers, architects and engineering managers, including organisational restructuring where required.
• Establish consistent software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices covering project estimation, code reviews, automated testing, deployment and production support.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering productivity, code quality and delivery timelines through modern development practices and automation.
• Lead the adoption of AI assisted development tools, generative AI and agentic workflows, embedding them into daily engineering processes and establishing appropriate usage standards.
• Oversee engineering delivery across internal teams and external vendors, including distributed teams, to ensure delivery quality, operational efficiency and alignment with business priorities.
• Foster a high performance engineering culture through talent development, performance management, technical coaching and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related quantitative discipline, with at least 12 years of software engineering experience and 6 years in senior technology leadership roles.
• Proven experience leading multi team engineering organisations, managing engineering managers and overseeing large scale software delivery across distributed teams or external vendors.
• Strong technical expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, microservices, API design and cloud native platforms, preferably AWS, with experience in high transaction, real time technology environments.
• Demonstrated experience in engineering governance, security by design, quality assurance automation, CI/CD pipelines and production reliability, with the ability to engage senior executives and enterprise clients on technical matters.
• Practical exposure to AI assisted software development, generative AI or agentic automation, with the ability to establish adoption standards and improve engineering productivity. Relevant cloud architecture, information security or enterprise architecture certifications are advantageous.
