The Role
We are seeking an experienced Employment Counsel (minimum 6 PQE) to join the company's APAC Legal team. This is a newly created role reporting into the Head of Employment Law and will provide employment law support to HR and business leaders across the region. The role requires a combination of strategic advisory capability and hands-on involvement, balancing both risk management and pragmatic commercial solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support on all aspects of employment law across APAC, including recruitment, employment contracts, performance management, workplace investigations, employee relations, terminations, and redundancies.
- Partner closely with HR, management, and business stakeholders to design and implement employment policies, practices, and compliance frameworks aligned with regional regulations and company values.
- Advise on cross-border employment matters, restructuring, workforce changes, and employment implications of M&A transactions.
- Manage and oversee employment disputes, litigation, and regulatory investigations in the region, working with external counsel where appropriate.
- Monitor and assess regulatory and legislative developments in key APAC jurisdictions, ensuring proactive compliance and policy updates.
- Deliver training and guidance to HR and business leaders on employment law issues, risk management, and best practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the global Employment Law team to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing across jurisdictions.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience in employment law, gained from a leading law firm and/or in-house with a multinational corporation.
- Strong knowledge of employment regulations in key APAC jurisdictions; multi-jurisdictional exposure is highly regarded.
- Proven ability to manage employment disputes and advise on complex employee relations issues.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with HR and business leaders to deliver pragmatic and commercially sound advice.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across cultures and time zones.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
