Electrical Design Engineer

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading marine engineering and vessel construction company based in Pasir Gudang, Johor. The role is responsible for designing, developing, and integrating electrical systems for newbuild and retrofit marine projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, classification requirements, and industry standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering, production, and project teams throughout the design, construction, installation, and commissioning phases.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Engineering

• Design and develop electrical systems for marine newbuild and retrofit projects, including power distribution, lighting, navigation, communication, and auxiliary systems.

• Prepare electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment layouts using AutoCAD or other design software.

• Produce detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation for production and installation.

• Ensure electrical designs comply with customer specifications, classification society requirements, and relevant marine regulations.

Project Engineering & Coordination

• Coordinate with Mechanical, Structural, and Project Engineering teams to integrate electrical systems into vessel designs.

• Review vendor drawings, technical specifications, and equipment datasheets for compliance with project requirements.

• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors on technical clarifications and equipment selection.

• Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project coordination activities.

Production & Commissioning Support

• Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.

• Resolve electrical design issues encountered during construction and installation.

• Conduct site inspections to verify installations against approved drawings and specifications.

• Support harbour acceptance tests, commissioning activities, and system troubleshooting where required.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain engineering documentation, drawing revisions, and as-built records.

• Ensure timely submission of engineering documents in accordance with project schedules.

• Support quality inspections and compliance with marine electrical standards and internal engineering procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.

• Minimum 3-6 years of experience in electrical design within the marine, offshore, shipbuilding, or EPC engineering industry.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D/3D) and electrical drafting software.

• Strong understanding of AC/DC power distribution, switchboards, lighting, control systems, navigation, communication, and auxiliary electrical systems.

• Familiarity with classification society standards such as DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register, BV, or RINA is an advantage.

• Ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications.

• Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional engineering teams.

• Willingness to work in a shipyard or marine engineering environment based in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in newbuild vessels, offshore structures, commercial marine projects, or complex marine electrical integration will have an advantage.
