Job Description

About the Role

Ever wondered what makes a fast-paced digital newsroom run smoothly behind the scenes

As an Editorial Operations Intern, you'll be at the heart of our newsroom, supporting our content teams across our editorial department.

This internship is designed for individuals who are passionate about the news and media industry but want to go beyond editorial content creation. It provides a hands-on opportunity to understand newsroom management and operational workflows in the media industry.

If you are keen to learn how newsrooms are run and want to build skills for managing media operations in the future, this role is for you.

What You'll Be Doing

1. Keep Newsroom Operations Running Smoothly

  • Handle essential administrative support and keep team resources and logistics organised.
  • Help log metrics, update editorial trackers, and organise data across our platforms.
  • Conduct research and gather context for special newsroom projects, events, or content productions.
  • Provide scheduling support by organising team rosters and leave schedules, to ensure that operations run smoothly.
  • Assist in preparing performance reports across Mothership's platforms and social channels, helping to highlight content trends and operational insights.

2. Support Workflows

  • Help build or refine in-house policies, tools and templates to make the editorial process more seamless.
  • Experiment with AI tools and no-code apps to automate manual work processes.
  • Keep an eye out for friction points/bottlenecks in how our editorial teams work, suggest potential solutions to the identified gaps, and execute them.
  • Work with colleagues from different teams (writers, video creators, social producers) to help them get comfortable using new tools and workflows.

3. Assist with Events Logistics and Content Production

  • Assist with behind-the-scenes event logistics and content production needs, as they arise.

Apply if you are:

  • A Proactive Self-Starter: You don't just sit back and wait to be assigned tasks. You actively look for ways to help, fix broken processes, and take ownership of your ideas.
  • Tech-Savvy & Curious: You love experimenting with tech, AI tools, or basic coding/scripts (vibe coding) to automate tasks and solve everyday problems.
  • Detail-Orientated & Reliable: You take pride in doing good work, whether it's entering data accurately, doing thorough research, or managing a spreadsheet.
  • A Good Communicator: You can explain ideas clearly and feel comfortable talking to teammates across different departments to get everyone on the same page.
  • Keen Interest in Digital Media: You are excited about news, social media, and learning how a modern digital publisher works.

Full-time and contract positions are also available for suitable candidates.
