Lorry drivers are
responsible for the safe and timely transportation of goods, involving driving large vehicles, planning efficient routes, and adhering to traffic laws, alongside crucial duties like overseeing secure loading/unloading, performing daily vehicle checks for maintenance, maintaining accurate delivery records, and providing excellent customer service to ensure goods arrive intact and on schedule
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Operation: Safely driving goods vehicles (HGVs) over various distances, following all road laws and company safety policies.
- Logistics & Routing: Planning the most efficient routes, adapting to traffic, and coordinating with transport managers for delivery schedules.
- Cargo Management: Supervising or assisting with loading and unloading, ensuring cargo is correctly secured, distributed for weight, and protected from damage.
- Maintenance: Conducting daily pre-trip inspections (oil, tires, brakes, etc.) and reporting any mechanical issues performing basic upkeep.
- Documentation: Completing delivery paperwork, logbooks, mileage records, fuel logs, and updating dispatchers.
- Customer Service: Interacting professionally with clients and staff, handling deliveries, and sometimes collecting payments.
- Problem Solving: Managing unexpected delays, traffic incidents, or mechanical breakdowns calmly and efficiently.
- Compliance: Adhering to all transport regulations, including those for hazardous materials if applicable, and maintaining vehicle cleanliness.
Key Skills & Requirements:
- Valid Class 3 / class 4 license
- Clean driving record.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Physical fitness for loading/unloading and working in demanding conditions.
- Good communication skills for interacting with team members and customers.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
