Job Description

About Double Exposure (DBX)

At DBX, we believe powerful storytelling is built on three pillars: Focus. Feeling. Story.
We craft emotionally resonant films, branded content, and social narratives that speak with audiences - not at them. Visual language is central to how we move people.

We are looking for a Director of Photography who understands that lighting is emotion, framing is psychology, and movement is meaning.

Role Overview

The Director of Photography (DoP) establishes the overall visual language of each production and translates creative vision into compelling cinematic imagery.

You will collaborate closely with directors and creative leadership to define and execute the aesthetic, mood, and style of our productions. You will lead the camera, lighting, and grip teams to achieve visual excellence while ensuring technical precision across all stages of production.

This role requires both strong artistic instincts and deep technical mastery.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Production

  • Collaborate with Directors and Producers to define visual tone, mood, and cinematic approach.
  • Develop shot lists, lighting plans, and camera strategies.
  • Conduct location scouts to assess lighting feasibility and camera logistics.
  • Recommend camera systems, lenses, filtration, and rigging requirements.

Production

  • Lead and direct camera, lighting, and grip teams on set.
  • Determine shot composition, framing, and camera movement.
  • Select appropriate lenses and camera systems to serve narrative intent.
  • Oversee or operate cameras to capture scenes with consistency and precision.
  • Ensure exposure, colour integrity, and continuity across scenes.

Technical Execution

  • Design and execute lighting setups that create specific moods and maintain consistent visual quality.
  • Supervise data handling, camera workflows, and best practices for media management.
  • Apply strong understanding of digital processes including high-resolution workflows, specialty cameras (e.g., 360), and emerging production technologies.

Post-Production Collaboration

  • Work closely with editors and colourists to ensure final outputs align with intended visual standards.
  • Guide colour grading direction to maintain consistency of mood and aesthetic.
  • Ensure footage integrity and proper data management from shoot to delivery.

Adaptability & Growth

  • Stay updated on industry trends, including high-resolution digital shooting and virtual production techniques.
  • Be comfortable operating outdoors and travelling for shoots when required.

Requirements & Skills

Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in a production house environment with strong videography focus.
  • Proven on-set experience.
  • Strong portfolio/showreel showcasing commercial, branded, or social content.

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of camera systems, lenses, lighting techniques, and grip equipment.
  • Strong understanding of digital workflows, colour science, and data management.
  • Familiarity with specialty camera formats (e.g.360 cameras, ARRI, etc) is an advantage.

Artistic Capability

  • Strong visual sensibility with the ability to conceptualise and execute a defined aesthetic.
  • Ability to translate narrative emotion into visual language.
  • Understanding of framing, movement, depth, and lighting psychology.

Soft Skills

  • Clear and confident communication skills.
  • Strong leadership presence on set.
  • Calm under pressure with ability to deliver within tight timelines.
  • Collaborative mindset when working with cross-functional teams.

Why Join DBX

  • Work on emotionally-driven, high-impact storytelling projects.
  • Collaborate with a team that values craft, empathy, and excellence.
  • Opportunity to grow creatively and technically within a dynamic production environment.
