ROLE SUMMARY
The VP of Mechanical Engineering will lead the technical design and project execution for all mechanical and MEP systems across a portfolio of new and existing data center developments in the APAC region. As a key member of the central design and construction team, this individual will be responsible for driving innovation in cooling solutions, ensuring design excellence, and overseeing project delivery from concept through to commissioning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Development: Lead the end-to-end mechanical engineering design for both greenfield developments and brownfield capacity expansions, including the integration of new services into operational data halls.
- Design & Documentation: Drive the creation of concept designs, feasibility studies, and detailed prospectus documents. Manage and direct external design consultants to ensure the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all mechanical designs and technical documentation.
- Technical Leadership: Act as the subject matter expert for mechanical systems, resolving complex design and site-based issues. Provide cross-disciplinary oversight, ensuring seamless integration with electrical, structural, architectural, and telecommunications designs.
- Process & Compliance: Establish and maintain internal design procedures and approval workflows. Ensure all projects adhere to relevant regulatory, safety, and sustainability standards while maintaining meticulous documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Stakeholder & Client Management: Confidently represent the engineering function in client-facing meetings, presenting technical solutions clearly and professionally. Collaborate with internal project management, construction, and facilities teams to achieve project goals.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. A Master's degree is highly preferred.
Core Competencies & Behavioral Skills:
- Deep Technical Expertise: Substantial, proven experience in mechanical design for data centers, encompassing greenfield design, live facility modifications, maintenance operations, testing & commissioning, and complex MEP work phasing.
- Multi-Disciplinary Awareness: Well-versed in the interdependencies of electrical systems, telecommunications, structural engineering, architecture, cost estimation, project management, and facilities operations.
- Leadership & Delivery: Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, managing competing priorities effectively.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of current and emerging cooling technologies, with a strong emphasis on sustainable, energy-efficient design solutions.
- Communication: Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the confidence to engage and influence clients and senior stakeholders.
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel extensively across the APAC region to support project development and construction activities.
