Role Description
A Director of IT Infrastructure is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategy, management, and optimization of an organization's IT infrastructure. This includes servers, networks, storage, cloud systems, and security to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance across the enterprise.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement IT infrastructure strategy aligned with business objectives
- Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of servers, networks, storage, and cloud platforms
- Manage IT infrastructure teams, including system administrators, network engineers, and support staff
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and security, including disaster recovery and backup planning
- Evaluate new technologies and drive infrastructure innovation and modernization
- Manage vendor relationships and procurement for infrastructure solutions
- Monitor IT budgets, resource allocation, and operational KPIs
- Establish policies, standards, and best practices for IT infrastructure management
- Collaborate with other departments to support business operations and projects
Qualifications
Typical qualifications for a Director of IT Infrastructure include:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure management or systems engineering
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and large-scale infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), virtualization, networking, and storage
- Experience with cybersecurity, compliance, and disaster recovery planning
- Excellent strategic planning, project management, and communication skills
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Cisco CCNP/CCIE, ITIL) are a plus
