Job Description

Meta is seeking a Director of Manufacturing Transformation to lead the strategic evolution of how Meta's hardware products are designed for manufacturability, scaled into production, and continuously improved across a global supply chain. This role sits at the intersection of manufacturing engineering, operational strategy, and product development, with direct impact on Meta's consumer hardware portfolio spanning augmented and virtual reality devices, wearables, and next-generation computing platforms. You will define the long-term manufacturing transformation roadmap, build and lead organizations of manufacturing engineering managers and specialists, and partner with product, operations, and supply chain leadership to drive systemic improvements in yield, quality, cost, and time-to-volume across Meta's hardware product lines.

Director, Manufacturing Transformation Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the manufacturing transformation roadmap for Meta's T1 (FATP) assembly operations across contract manufacturer sites
  • Establish lean manufacturing principles as the operating philosophy for all new and existing production lines
  • Partner with Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Test Engineering and DFx teams to influence product architecture decisions that simplify assembly (DFA)
  • Develop and deploy a production system framework (drawing on TPS, lean, and modern digital manufacturing concepts) tailored to Meta's unique product complexity
  • Analyze current assembly processes to identify and eliminate sources of waste — particularly excessive dwell time (e.g., 8-hour adhesive cure cycles), high labor engagement, unnecessary handling, and process complexity
  • Design optimized line layouts, material flow, workstation ergonomics, and takt-time-balanced assembly sequences
  • Drive systematic DFA engagement earlier in the product development cycle, influencing design choices that reduce part count, eliminate complex joining processes, and enable automation-friendly assembly
  • Establish cycle time, OEE, throughput, and first-pass yield targets for assembly operations and build systems to track and improve them continuously
  • Develop a high-performing team of lean/IE professionals (target: 4-5 headcount in first 12 months)
  • Build a culture of relentless simplification — challenge complexity at every level, from product design to factory floor layout
  • Create playbooks, standards, and training programs that scale lean practices across Meta's CM network
  • Foster strong partnerships with CM industrial engineering teams to co-develop and implement improvements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, new product introduction, or manufacturing operations within a consumer electronics or hardware product company
  • Experience leading and developing organizations of managers and engineering teams across geographically distributed manufacturing environments
  • Experience defining and executing manufacturing strategy for complex electromechanical or optoelectronic products at high volume
  • Experience partnering with contract manufacturers and global supply chain organizations to drive process capability, quality, and cost improvements
  • Experience communicating manufacturing strategy and program risk to executive stakeholders and influencing cross-functional product and operations decisions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience scaling manufacturing operations for wearable devices, AR/VR hardware, or similarly complex consumer electronics with tight form factor and optical precision requirements
  • Experience building manufacturing engineering organizations from early-stage capability through high-volume production readiness
  • Familiarity with statistical process control, lean manufacturing principles, and structured problem-solving methodologies applied at a global contract manufacturing scale
  • Experience leading manufacturing transformation programs that incorporate automation, advanced process control, or smart factory technologies
