Job Description

Main Objective

Handles cargo claims, third party liability claims, personal injuries and major incidents, including such with high complexity and scope, for Hapag-Lloyd AG, its subsidiaries and affiliated companies, as well as for other companies with corresponding service or agency agreements, in consultation with the Regional stakeholders and/or Senior Director of Corporate Insurance Risk Management.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the team in accomplishing the following:
  • appointing independent surveyors
  • Requesting supporting documents from claimants and from within the Hapag-Lloyd organization
  • Reviewing facts and merits of the claims in accordance with applicable contracts, laws and regulations
  • Co-ordinating with insurers, including invoicing and settlement of accounts where respective policy deductibles are exceeded
  • Initiating and pursuing third party recoveries
  • Co-ordinating assistance and involvement of external experts (such as surveyors) and lawyers
  • Negotiating settlements
  • Administering paper claim files and electronic files in InsTRA
  • Provides advice and guidance to other Departments and Regional / Area Offices on all insurance, risk and liability matters
  • Provides advice and guidance to other Departments and Regional / Area Offices on and in relation to the review, drafting, analyses and negotiation of contracts, as well as purchasing of additional insurance in consultation with the Placings Team
  • Monitors and analyses risks with a view to loss prevention
  • Obtains confirmation of insurance coverage from insurers and pursues / settles cover disputes
  • Coordinates with insurers, attorneys, experts and operations in the case of major incidents / casualties
  • Accountable for the training of new employees, apprentices or interns
  • Involvement in projects and special tasks

Leadership & Management

  • To lead, build and empower local talents. Partner with HR to ensure to have the right/ strongest staff members in the right positions
  • Ensure regular training refreshers in cooperation with BSD
  • Regular check backs with central TM to enhance processes
  • Develop and update onboarding program for new joiners

Other Initiatives

  • Collaborating with our operational colleagues as well as external insurers and attorneys.

Requirements

  • Degree in Law/Business Administration with 8-10 years of experience, preferably in the maritime industry.
  • Proven track record in leading a team
  • Analytical with good problem-solving organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable and motivated team player
  • Ability to function in a cross-cultural environment
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint)
