Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The Digital Product Director will drive the design and build-out of scalable, compliant, and audit-ready product frameworks across payments, cross-border remittance, and digital financial services. This role will work at the intersection of product strategy, technical architecture, compliance readiness and alignment, and operational design, ensuring the company's products, documentation, and internal processes meet the standards expected of a regulated payments business.

This position seeks to strengthen our digital products foundation and scale our payments and financial operations when product launches.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Strategy & Licensing-Ready Roadmap

  • Develop long-term product vision and priorities grounded in business goals, operational feasibility, and regulatory expectations.
  • Build a product roadmap covering payments, remittance flows, financial operations, and internal tooling.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify product gaps, compliance requirements, and opportunities for differentiation.

2. End-to-End Product Development & Governance

  • Lead product discovery, requirements definition, solution design, and product documentation.
  • Architect API-driven workflows, integrations, and system behaviour for payments, identity, and financial operations.
  • Oversee QA, UAT, and release management with traceability aligned to regulated-product standards.

3. Payment & Remittance Foundations

  • Design clear and scalable fund flows, settlement processes, reconciliation logic, and operating procedures.
  • Define and implement payment use cases (wallet, payout, issuing/acquiring) with strong operational clarity.
  • Support integration planning with payment partners, banks, infrastructure providers, and relevant technology vendors.

4. Regulatory & Compliance Readiness

  • Work closely with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Operations to ensure products adhere to international payment industry standards.
  • Contribute to the creation of internal governance frameworks, SOPs, and product risk assessments.
  • Define dispute management, chargeback flow, refund processes, and customer issue resolution frameworks.
  • Ensure all product features are aligned with expected guidelines under payment, remittance, and financial services regulations.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for payment operations and secure system workflows.

5. Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead coordinated execution between Product, Engineering, Compliance, Operations, and Business teams.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, decision-making frameworks, and prioritization processes across multiple domains.
  • Represent product leadership in discussions with technology partners and internal senior stakeholders.

6. Scalability, Monitoring & Operational Integrity

  • Define KPIs and product health metrics to ensure auditability, transparency, and operational resilience.
  • Support the set-up of monitoring, incident response, transaction review, and operational reporting standards.
  • Continuously refine product design, governance, and workflows to support scaling into regulated markets.

7. Strategic and Financial Leadership

  • Lead strategic planning for growth of the payments business.
  • Manage P&L for payments division and digital product unit.
  • Define KPIs for platform performance, product OKRs, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive innovations in remittance corridors, digital wallets, and payment rails


8. Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Build and mentor a high performing environment within payment ops, product management, engineering and compliance
  • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Support cross- functional collaboration with Compliance, Finance, Risk, Marketing and Customer Support.

Qualifications & Experience Must-Have

  • 10+ years in digital product management across fintech, payments, financial infrastructure, or digital banking.
  • Strong experience designing compliant financial products with exposure to regulated environments.
  • Deep understanding of onboarding flows, identity verification, fraud/transaction risk controls, and payment operations.
  • Proven ability to translate regulatory expectations into product specifications, system architecture, and operational SOPs.
  • Effective communicator with strong cross-functional leadership experience.

Preferred

  • Prior involvement in preparing product, risk, or operations materials for licensing submissions.
  • Experience building or integrating cross-border payment corridors, mobile money, issuing/acquiring solutions, or digital wallets.
  • Background working in emerging markets or high-growth payment companies.
  • Advanced degree in Business, Technology, Engineering, Public Policy, or related fields.
