RESPONSIBILITIES
The role spans end-to-end oversight of AI-driven metadata generation, tagging accuracy, and taxonomy standards across news and current affairs digital content. It ensures alignment with editorial guidelines, content governance frameworks, and data protection policies, particularly in areas such as facial recognition and rights-managed material.
Working cross-functionally with Editorial, Production, Technology, and Data Governance teams, the specialist ensures seamless integration of the PAM system into daily newsroom workflows, supporting efficient ingest, search, retrieval, reuse, and multiplatform publishing. The role influences newsroom productivity, content discoverability, archival integrity, and the maximisation of content value across broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
While not directly responsible for content creation, the position has organisation-wide newsroom impact by strengthening asset governance, enhancing AI-enabled workflows, supporting compliance standards, and enabling Mediacorp's broader digital transformation and multiplatform distribution strategy.
- Metadata and AI Tagging Management
- Oversee the generation, review, and accuracy of metadata created by AI tools, including facial recognition, speech-to-text transcription, and object detection.
- Develop and maintain metadata standards, taxonomies, and keyword hierarchies aligned with newsroom editorial practices.
- Ensure consistent tagging across all content to enable precise search and retrieval in Mimir and connected systems.
- Workflow Integration
- Manage the integration of the digital production asset management system with newsroom production tools (e.g. Adobe Premiere).
- Set up and maintain user roles, access rights, and approval workflows to support editorial and technical teams.
- Quality Control and Compliance
- Perform regular quality checks on ingested video and audio assets to ensure technical and editorial integrity.
- Oversee copyright management, rights usage tracking, and compliance with data privacy policies, especially for facial recognition data.
- Ensure adherence to archival and backup policies, preserving long-term content integrity.
- Training and User Support
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for producers, journalists, and editors on AI-enabled search, tagging, and media retrieval.
- Develop user manuals, quick guides, and best practice documents for metadata management and AI-assisted workflows.
- Act as the primary point of contact for newsroom teams to resolve asset-related issues and feedback on system functionality.
- Content and Performance Monitoring
- Alert content teams if there is video that could be used for social media.
- Monitor and report on system performance metrics, including tagging accuracy, ingest efficiency, and storage utilisation.
- Propose workflow improvements based on user feedback, and emerging newsroom technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS- Degree or diploma in Media Management, Broadcast Technology, Journalism, or related field.
- 3+ years experience in broadcast or digital media management, preferably within a newsroom or post-production environment.
- Familiarity with digital production asset management (PAM) systems.
- Experience with media-related AI tools is a bonus.
- Strong understanding of SEO basics, metadata standards and discoverability.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with both technical and editorial teams.
- Knowledge of data governance, rights management, and content security practices.
- Having worked in newsroom will be an advantage.
- Prepared to work irregular shift hours and weekends/public holidays.
