Job Description

Albemarle is hiring for a Digital and AI Governance Lead. This position is hybrid (3 days per week in office) and located in Bangalore, India

What You Will Do

• Facilitate the AI Risk and Ethics Review Board to help evaluate AI use cases and risk, partnering with Legal, InfoSec, IT, Audit, and Compliance.
• Support the completion of internal and external AI Risk Assessments,
• Monitor evolving AI regulatory requirements in the company's key locations across Europe, Asia, Australia, the United States, and Chile, and translate obligations into internal policy, controls, and governance checkpoints across the AI development lifecycle.
• Partner with Legal and Compliance to continuously mature the enterprise Digital and AI Governance framework, defining policies, risk-assessment criteria, and approval checkpoints for new digital and AI initiatives.
• Partner with IT leadership, Data & Analytics, Legal, Finance, and business stakeholders to assess, report on, and continuously improve governance maturity across emerging digital and AI risk domains.
• Serve as the primary point of escalation for AI ethics and responsible-use questions raised by business and technology teams and coordinate cross-functional responses.
• Track and communicate the organization's AI governance posture to senior leadership, including risk exposure, remediation status, and regulatory readiness.
  
  

Required

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Law, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• 8–10+ years of experience in IT governance, risk management, data privacy, compliance, or a related field, with meaningful exposure to digital or AI risk topics.
• Working knowledge of AI and emerging technology governance frameworks (NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act, etc.) and sufficient familiarity with AI/ML concepts to assess risk and engage credibly with technical teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead governance programs and review bodies in a cross-functional environment.
  
  

It'd Be Great If You Also Have

• AI governance credential (e.g., IAPP AI Governance Professional) or demonstrated experience building responsible AI programs.
• Professional certifications: CISA, CRISC, CGEIT, CISSP, or equivalent.
• Experience with bias detection, fairness testing, or model auditability requirements in AI/ML systems.
• Knowledge of data privacy regulations and their intersection with AI, including GDPR CCPA, PIPL and other global regulatory schemes.
• Ability to translate complex compliance and AI risk concepts into clear business language for senior and executive stakeholders.
• Collaborative and influential leadership style; able to drive governance adoption across cross-functional teams in a positive and constructive way.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, particularly around emerging AI regulation and novel use cases.
