Position Title: Desktop Publishing Artist
Responsibilities
- Responsible for accurately processing job according to specifications and requirements, ensuring the creation of print-ready PDFs for production
- Assist in preparing print-ready PDFs, ensuring all files are impositioned correctly and comply with the company's pre-press guidelines, maintaining a smooth production operation
- Thoroughly review all artwork and files to ensure they are properly set up for print, confirming aspects such as color modes, resolution, dimensions, typography and image quality
- Utilize pre-press software (e.g., Enfocus PitStop, Prinect Cockpit) to conduct preflight checks, identifying common issues such as trim size, bleed, fonts, and resolution. Correct errors before finalizing files for print
- Support in modifying and adjusting images or spine width as needed for proper print output, ensuring quality standards and visual accuracy are met
- Create hardcopy proofs for internal or customer review, verifying that the layout, binding type, and colors are accurate before sending the files for final production
- Ensure file management systems are maintained efficiently, making it easy to access and track files, reducing the risk of misplaced or lost data
- Offer assistance to the supervisor in their absence, ensuring workflow continuity and the timely completion of tasks
- Ensure that all digital files are regularly backed up, safeguarding against data loss and maintaining file integrity and security
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work environment, which supports an efficient, productive, and safe workspace for the team
- Continuously learn and stay informed about advancements in prepress technology and industry best practices to enhance skills and improve workflow efficiency
To process job accurately per specification/ requirement (CTP stage)
- Follow the production schedule as outlined by the planner, ensuring timely completion of tasks while managing resources and priorities effectively to avoid delays
- Operate the CTP machine to produce plates for the print job, ensuring correct settings and smooth machine operation throughout the process
- Perform necessary checks, such as verifying the Plate ID and screen ruling, ensuring they meet job specifications
- Inspect the quality of the produced plates to ensure the plates are meet required standards
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace to ensure a productive and safe work environment, keeping equipment and materials properly stored and accessible
- Familiarise with the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals and materials used, ensuring safe handling, usage, and storage procedures are followed
Requirements
- Min GCE N levels or equivalent certificate with 2 year of relevant experience
- Practical understanding of print preparation from digital files to final print output
- Proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat Pro
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively to meet deadlines
- Ability to apply colour management principles effectively
