Job Description

Designer, Content-as-a-Service (2-year contract)

About Us

SPH Media's mission is to be the trusted source of news and lifestyle content in Singapore and Asia. One of our core purposes is to produce credible, balanced, and objective news and analysis, always with a view to uphold the public good and fostering an informed, engaged citizenry.

We welcome talented individuals to join us and grow a career in a vibrant and collaborative environment built around a culture of respect and inclusivity.

As an employer, we are committed to rewarding our people fairly and developing them in their careers.

About the role

The Designer is part of the creative core of SPH Media's new Content-as-a-Service (CaaS) capability, within the international-award-winning Content & Solutioning Division.

This is where editorial storytelling meets design, illustration and motion. You'll work on a wide mix of outputs from long-form publications and digital storytelling to social content, motion pieces, event visuals and campaign materials often taking complex subjects and turning them into work that is clear, engaging and visually strong.

You'll work closely with the Art Director and the wider CaaS team to bring ideas to life. It's a hands-on role for someone who enjoys making, experimenting and refining and who wants to build a body of work that is thoughtful, contemporary and actually seen in the world.

This is a 2-year contract, with renewal possibilities.

What you'll do

Design across formats and platforms:

  • Design layouts for long-form editorial work and digital narratives.
  • Adapt and extend creative work across social, digital, print, and out-of-home formats.
  • Support campaign identities, event visuals and publicity materials where needed.
  • Keep a consistent, well-crafted visual language across everything you produce.

Turn ideas into visuals:

  • Work with the Art Director to translate editorial ideas into strong visual design.
  • Contribute layouts, visual directions and design ideas at concept stage.
  • Make work that is clear, engaging and easy to understand even when the subject matter isn't.

Work confidently across illustration, design and motion:

  • Create illustrations, diagrams and visual explainers where needed.
  • Develop motion graphics and animated elements for digital and video content.
  • Adapt assets across different formats, ratios and platforms without losing quality or intent.

Make things well, and make them properly:

  • Prepare artwork and files for print and digital production.
  • Manage files, versions and assets in an organised and reliable way.
  • Ensure work meets production specs and goes out correctly.

Work as part of a creative team:

  • Collaborate with editors and video/audio creatives to build integrated storytelling.
  • Take feedback well and improve work quickly.
  • Support external creatives or partners where needed.

Who we're looking for

You're probably a few years into your career, and you:

  • Have experience in media, content marketing or commissioned content environments.
  • Have strong fundamentals in layout, typography, colour and composition.
  • Are comfortable working across both print and digital / social formats.
  • Have working capability in motion design and animation
  • Have a good eye, good taste and solid attention to detail.
  • Are curious, collaborative and enjoy figuring things out.

You like making things, you care about craft, and you want to work on ideas that have a bit more substance than the usual.

What this role is not

  • Not a print-only role
  • Not a narrow social-content production role
  • Not a purely technical production role

This is a hands-on, multi-format design role with room to grow.

Why this role is interesting

You'll get to work on a wide range of formats from long-form editorial pieces to campaign visuals and motion content inside a high-performing, award-winning division within SPH Media. It's a role for someone who wants variety, wants to build a strong portfolio, and wants their work to be seen, used and actually matter.

Application requirement

Please include a portfolio showcasing your design work across multiple formats, including editorial, digital and motion where possible.
