Design Engineer

Job Responsibilities

• Prepare 2D technical drawings, layout plans, elevations and detailed carpentry shop drawings using AutoCAD.

• Develop 3D interior design models and visual presentations using SketchUp or other relevant design software.

• Design customised kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, TV consoles, storage cabinets and other built-in furniture.

• Conduct site measurements and verify dimensions to ensure design accuracy.

• Prepare detailed fabrication and installation drawings for carpentry production.

• Coordinate with carpentry managers, production teams and site supervisors to ensure designs are practical and feasible.

• Review architectural drawings, project specifications and customer requirements.

• Recommend suitable materials, finishes, fittings and hardware based on design requirements and project budgets.

• Prepare material specifications, cutting details and technical documentation for production.

• Revise drawings according to customer feedback, site conditions and production requirements.

• Coordinate with contractors and other trades to resolve design and installation issues.

• Ensure drawings comply with relevant building requirements, safety standards and project specifications.

• Monitor design progress and ensure timely submission of drawings.

• Provide technical support to workshop and installation teams throughout project execution.

• Maintain accurate drawing records and project documentation.

Job Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Engineering, Building or a related discipline.

• Relevant experience in interior design, carpentry detailing, furniture design or renovation projects.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp.

• Knowledge of 3D rendering software such as V-Ray, Enscape or 3ds Max would be an advantage.

• Good understanding of carpentry construction, materials, laminates, plywood, fittings and hardware.

• Ability to prepare accurate 2D drawings, 3D models and detailed shop drawings.

• Familiarity with site measurements, fabrication processes and installation requirements.

• Strong attention to detail, technical problem-solving and time management skills.

• Able to work independently and coordinate effectively with project teams.

• Good communication skills and willingness to attend site visits when required.
