Position Overview
The Deputy Project Director supports the Project Director in the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale offshore energy projects, including FPSO developments, offshore substations, wind farms, and wind turbine installations. This role ensures safe, timely, and cost-effective project delivery while managing multidisciplinary engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning (EPIC/EPCI) activities.
The role requires strong leadership, technical depth in offshore projects, and proven experience managing major projects above USD 150 million.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management
- Assist the Project Director in overall project governance, strategic direction, and decision-making.
- Lead cross-functional project teams covering engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, HSE, and quality disciplines.
- Drive project execution in alignment with contract requirements, schedule, budget, and quality targets.
- Represent the project in internal and external meetings when the Project Director is unavailable
Project Planning & Execution
- Support development of project execution plans, risk management plans, and project control systems.
- Facilitate coordination across engineering (FEED / detailed design), procurement, fabrication yards, marine operations, and offshore installation teams.
- Oversee readiness for offshore execution, SIMOPS planning, logistics, and marine spreads.
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions when deviations occur.
Commercial & Contract Management
- Support contract administration for main EPIC/EPCI contracts and key subcontracts.
- Participate in negotiation of variations, claims management, and commercial reporting.
- Ensure alignment with client, classification societies, OEMs, and major subcontractors.
HSE & Quality Assurance
- Promote a strong HSE culture and ensure project activities comply with company, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Ensure quality plans, inspection test plans (ITPs), and assurance processes are fully implemented.
Stakeholder & Client Management
- Maintain effective communication with Client representatives, JV partners, and regulatory authorities.
- Prepare and present progress reports, dashboards, and project performance updates.
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and manage project team members, including discipline leads and package managers.
- Drive competency development and promote high-performance project culture.
Requirements
Mandatory Experience
- Minimum 12-18 years of project management experience in offshore energy projects.
- Proven leadership roles in FPSO, Offshore Substation (OSS), Wind Farm, or Wind Turbine development projects.
- Successful execution of at least one EPIC/EPCI project with contract value USD 150 million.
- Experience across full project lifecycle: FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, integration, load-out, offshore installation, and commissioning.
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of offshore engineering disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical, marine).
- Knowledge of classification rules, offshore codes, and regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with marine operations, heavy lifts, cable installation, and offshore commissioning.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Marine, Naval Architecture, or similar).
- Master's degree or PMP/Prince2 certification is an advantage.
Skills
