Job Description

About Us

SPH Media's mission is to be the trusted source of news and lifestyle content in Singapore and Asia. One of our core purposes is to produce credible, balanced, and objective news and analysis, always with a view to uphold the public good and fostering an informed, engaged citizenry.

We welcome talented individuals to join us and grow a career in a vibrant and collaborative environment built around a culture of respect and inclusivity.

As an employer, we are committed to rewarding our people fairly and developing them in their careers.

About the role

The Deputy Editor is a key part of the editorial core of SPH Media's new Content-as-a-Service (CaaS) capability, based within the international-award-winning Content & Solutioning Division.

SPH Media is Singapore's trusted national media organisation, with a long-standing role in shaping public understanding through credible journalism and storytelling. CaaS builds on this trust by supporting public- and regulated-sector organisations with editorially rigorous, audience-focused content delivered across multiple formats.

This role works closely with the Senior Editor to maintain the quality, clarity and integrity of all CaaS content output. While the role is primarily text-focused, it involves working across multiple formats including long-form editorial, design, video, audio and digital content.

At the heart of the role is day-to-day editorial execution: Editing commissioned work, managing contributors, supporting content development across formats, and keeping standards high throughout the production process. You'll collaborate with external writers, researchers and subject-matter experts to deliver work that is editorially strong and meaningful for both institutional clients and public audiences.

This is a 2-year contract, with renewal possibilities.

What you'll do

Support editorial quality and execution:

  • Help ensure institutional briefs are translated into content that is clear, engaging and relevant to public audiences
  • Edit and refine externally commissioned content to meet SPH Media editorial standards
  • Ensure consistency in tone, structure, accuracy and accessibility across all outputs
  • Support the Senior Editor in maintaining editorial rigour and audience relevance
  • Conduct fact-checking, copy-editing and quality assurance on key deliverables

Manage commissioned contributors:

  • Coordinate with external writers, researchers and subject-matter experts
  • Brief contributors on project requirements, tone and editorial expectations
  • Manage revisions, feedback loops and editorial versioning
  • Build and maintain relationships with a trusted network of freelance contributors

Support multi-format content development:

  • Work with the Art Director and Video & Audio Lead to ensure editorial consistency across formats
  • Review and edit scripts, outlines and narrative structures for video and audio content
  • Ensure that editorial intent translates effectively from text to other formats
  • Support the adaptation of long-form content into derivative formats (e.g., social, infographics, audio summaries)

Assist in editorial planning and briefing:

  • Help translate institutional briefs into clear, compelling editorial approaches
  • Support the development of content structures, outlines and narrative frameworks
  • Contribute ideas and editorial perspectives during project planning
  • Research and gather reference materials to inform content development

Maintain editorial workflows and documentation:

  • Manage editorial schedules, tracking and version control across projects
  • Maintain style guides, templates and editorial resources
  • Document editorial processes and contribute to best-practice development
  • Ensure smooth handovers between contributors, formats and production stages

Collaborate and communicate:

  • Work closely with the Project Management Lead to meet delivery timelines
  • Communicate editorial requirements and feedback clearly to internal and external stakeholders
  • Flag editorial risks or challenges early
  • Support approvals processes and stakeholder liaison where needed

Who we're looking for

You're likely to have:

  • Minimum 5 years of editorial experience in publishing, media, content marketing or commissioned content environments
  • Proven ability to edit complex or policy-heavy content into clear, engaging narratives
  • Experience commissioning, briefing and managing freelance writers or contributors
  • Strong organisational discipline and attention to editorial detail
  • Experience working on long-form, narrative-led or multi-format projects
  • Familiarity with public-sector, government or regulated-industry content
  • Good judgement when handling sensitive, policy-related or institutional material
  • Earned confidence to ask questions, offer suggestions and maintain standards
  • Comfort working across formats, even if your primary strength is in text

You care about craft, clarity and audience and you're energised by the idea of working on meaningful, high-impact content in a collaborative environment.

What this role is not

  • Not a purely writing-focused role
  • Not a newsroom or daily news production role
  • Not a campaign copywriting or marketing role

This is a hands-on editorial role working directly with the Senior Editor, with genuine scope to shape how things are done and build skills across formats.

Why this role is interesting

You'll be helping to shape meaningful, high-impact work at institutional scale, backed by a trusted national media organisation, and embedded within a high-performing, award-winning division. The role offers variety, the chance to edit and shape work to a high standard, and the opportunity to build editorial skills across formats without the grind of daily news or campaign-only constraints.

About SPH Media's Content & Solutioning Division

This is where editorial craft meets creative ambition. The division brings together Content Lab, Brand Newsroom and SPH Media's advertising capabilities to produce commissioned work that spans branded storytelling, native content in news environments, video, and integrated campaigns across social, digital, print, audio and out-of-home. The team's work has been recognised internationally by organisations such as The Drum, the Content Marketing Association, the Content Marketing Institute, and WAN-IFRA including multiple wins for public-sector, video and multiformat work. It's a place for people who like ideas, enjoy solving complex briefs, and want to make work that is smart, credible, entertaining, and genuinely impactful.
