Position Summary
The Deputy Director will lead UNGCNS's carbon management and LowCarbonSG agenda & programmes, with a primary focus ondriving impactful emissions reduction and building capabilities across Singapore businesses and beyond. The role oversees strategic partnerships with CPLC Singapore Partners, Queen Bee companies, IHLs, and regulators, while strengthening the UNGCNS brand andadvancing the low-carbon transition locally and regionally, and building business opportunities for our capabilities-building interventions. The Deputy Director will design and deliver emissions management training using CERT, curate and interpret carbon data to inform local and regional insights, and develop practical resources to help organisations reduce their GHG footprint. This position suits an ambitious, curious, and lateral-thinking leader who believes in building a better world, is comfortable engaging senior stakeholders across all sectors, and is keen to contribute to a fast-growing area within the UN Global Compact and the wider World Bank-CPLC network.
Responsibilities
. Provide strategic leadership for key partnerships in carbon management & capabilities programme management, including Queen Bee companies, institutions of higher learning (IHLs), and regulatory authorities, to strengthen the UNGCNS brand and scale the LowCarbonSG programme.
. Identify opportunities to grow the LowCarbonSG programme and capabilities programmes, and enable the impact across the organisations
. Lead and deliver training on carbon emissions management, including teaching the Carbon Emissions Recording Tool (CERT) for companies and organisations, through both group programmes and bespoke engagements.
. Recommend and implement operational processes and engagement strategies that deepen participation from member companies and increase the quality and frequency of CERT submissions.
. Oversee the smooth, day-to-day execution of the LowCarbonSG programme, including CERT benchmarking, monitoring performance, and ensuring the achievement of agreed KPI targets.
. Design and develop resources and tools that support programme participants in reducing their GHG footprint, such as training materials, videos, guides, and practical implementation toolkits.
. Conduct research on emerging sustainability and climate-related developments (e.g. environmental and carbon legislation, carbon markets and pricing, renewable energy and efficiency incentives) and translate insights into thought leadership content.
. Support the Director, Carbon Management, and the UNGCNS leadership team to advance team objectives and organisational goals, contributing to strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.
Skill
. Strong knowledge ofcarbon accounting and management, including:
o Understanding of carbon markets and pricing developments, and of carbon reporting and disclosure requirements.
o Ability to conduct organisational carbon footprint assessments, interpret results, and design mitigation strategies and projects to reduce emissions.
. Strong analytical skills, with a meticulous and imaginative approach to interpreting quantitative and qualitative information.
. Results-oriented, with a strong focus on delivering outcomes within agreed timelines.
. Curiosity and learning agility, with a commitment to staying current on sustainability and carbon accounting developments.
. Appreciation of systems thinking and interconnections across value chains, policies, and business functions.
. Ability to thrive in a small, collaborative team environment while building and maintaining strong networks with stakeholders across the wider sustainability and carbon management ecosystem.
Educational and Experience Requirements
. At least 10 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years in sustainability and/or carbon management.
. Tertiary education in business, accounting, science, or an engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical).
. A relevant sustainability-related diploma, degree, or postgraduate certification is required.
. Established network in the sustainability field, particularly with senior and influential stakeholders (e.g. CSOs), and demonstrated experience in business development and partnership management.
. Experience leading cross-functional teams and influencing executive leadership.
. Practical experience with plant machinery, industrial systems, and/or energy efficiency projects will be an advantage.
. Training-related qualifications (e.g. ACTA or ACLP) and/or prior experience in designing and delivering training programmes will be an advantage.
. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
