Data Engineer (Snowflake / DevOps & CI/CD) (1 Year Contract)

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer with a strong specialisation in DevOps and CI/CD to support the development, automation, and deployment of a Snowflake-based data platform.

In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain automated deployment pipelines to ensure that changes to Snowflake database objects, data pipelines, and platform configurations are consistently tested, version-controlled, and securely deployed across development, UAT, and production environments.

You will work closely with data engineers, solution architects, infrastructure, and security teams to establish reliable CI/CD processes, streamline deployments, and maintain a secure and scalable data platform.

This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone with strong experience in GitLab CI/CD, Snowflake, scripting, and deployment automation within enterprise environments.

CI/CD Pipeline Development & Automation

• Design, develop, and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment of Snowflake database objects, data pipelines, and configuration changes.
• Implement version control, automated testing, approval workflows, and deployment controls across development, UAT, and production environments.
• Develop reusable deployment templates, scripts, and automation frameworks to standardise deployment processes.
• Automate environment configurations and ensure the controlled promotion of changes between environments.
• Support the provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of private CI/CD runners within secure network environments.

Snowflake Platform & Deployment Management

• Automate the deployment and management of Snowflake objects, including databases, schemas, roles, policies, views, Dynamic Tables, Streams, and Tasks.
• Implement deployment logging, monitoring, rollback, and recovery procedures to ensure platform reliability.
• Support the management of Snowflake role-based access controls (RBAC), permissions, and environment configurations.
• Troubleshoot deployment failures, pipeline issues, and configuration inconsistencies across environments.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure deployment processes align with platform architecture and engineering standards.

Security, Infrastructure & Platform Operations

• Work closely with infrastructure, security, and network teams to implement secure CI/CD processes and platform connectivity.
• Support secure network configurations, including PrivateLink, network policies, secrets management, and access controls.
• Implement and maintain deployment security standards, ensuring compliance with enterprise security requirements.
• Monitor Snowflake jobs, data pipelines, and platform health to identify and resolve operational issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve deployment efficiency, platform stability, and operational reliability.

Documentation & Collaboration

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, CI/CD standards, and operational runbooks.
• Collaborate with solution architects, data engineers, and DevOps teams to improve engineering practices and deployment workflows.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to engineering and operational teams.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation, deployment reliability, and platform maintainability.

• At least 4 years of experience in Data Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or related technical roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, Git, and automated deployment pipelines.
• Practical experience with Snowflake, including deploying and managing database objects through automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as Python and Shell scripting.
• Experience implementing automated testing, release management, deployment approval workflows, and rollback procedures.
• Good understanding of Snowflake security concepts, including RBAC, role grants, environment configurations, and secrets management.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, networking, and secure enterprise environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose deployment and platform issues.
• Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, infrastructure, and security teams.

• Experience with Terraform, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), or database change-management tools.
• Familiarity with enterprise CI/CD platforms and deployment automation frameworks.
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
• Relevant certifications in Snowflake, Azure, or DevOps.
