This role suits a hands-on Data Engineer who enjoys working close to production diagnosing data issues, strengthening pipelines, and ensuring data is accurate, timely, and trustworthy.
What You'll Do
- Diagnose and resolve data pipeline failures, production issues, and performance bottlenecks
- Debug data jobs and investigate unexpected data changes across datasets
- Optimise SQL queries and database performance to improve efficiency and scalability
- Design and maintain robust ETL / ELT pipelines in production environments
- Build workflows for automated data regeneration and recovery
- Monitor data quality, pipeline health, and system reliability
- Enable secure and efficient data access for analytics while ensuring compliance
- Work closely with the Data Lead and engineering teams in an agile environment
- Recommend and apply best-practice data engineering tools and patterns
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer (consulting experience welcome)
- Strong Python skills with hands-on experience using Pandas for data manipulation
- Solid experience with SQL performance tuning and query optimisation
- Proven experience building and supporting production-grade data pipelines
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)
- Familiarity with data lakes, data warehouses, or large-scale datasets
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working with ambiguous data issues
- Clear communicator who collaborates well with engineers and product stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience with Databricks / Spark / Delta Lake
- Exposure to government, regulated, or large-enterprise environments
- Experience supporting BAU / production data operations
- Knowledge of data security, access control, or governance practices
