Data Engineer - 2-year renewable direct contract

Our client, a large European retail group with a strong international footprint, operating highly efficient, cost-focused grocery and hypermarket formats. The organisation is known for its vertically integrated supply chain, high level of standardisation, and disciplined operational model that enables scalability across markets. It places strong emphasis on digitalisation, ERP platforms, and data-driven decision-making to support continuous expansion while delivering consistent value and operational excellence.

• Design, build, and maintain BI systems, including database integration and data warehousing

• Design and develop DWH data models (star schema)

• Manage the semantic model in Oracle Analytics Cloud to provide a unified data view

• Manage user roles, access rights, and row-level security to protect sensitive data

• Work with ETL teams, IT Business Consulting, and external vendors to ensure proper data ingestion and integration

• Collaborate with Business Controlling and stakeholders on new reporting requirements

• Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with internal standards and guidelines

• Maintain clear documentation of data architecture, models, workflows, and security concepts

• Gather and analyze business reporting requirements and translate them into BI solutions

• Build and manage data models for BI dashboards in collaboration with the Controlling team

• Monitor performance and availability of BI, Data Lake, and Data Warehouse platforms

• Perform system maintenance and enhancements to existing BI solutions

• Provide 2nd-level support for BI and analytics tools and reporting issues

• 4+ years of experience as a BI Developer or Data Engineer in an enterprise environment

• Strong hands-on experience in database modeling (star schema)

• Proficiency in SQL and data warehousing concepts

• Experience with Oracle BI environments and exposure to or migration towards GCP

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines using GCP services (e.g. Dataflow, Apache Beam, Dataprep)

• Experience with GCP storage solutions such as BigQuery and Cloud Storage

• Ability to design and optimize data models for performance and scalability

• Experience ensuring data quality through validation and cleansing processes

• Strong understanding of ETL / ELT processes and BI tool integration (e.g. Tableau, Looker)

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills

• Customer-oriented with good communication and interpersonal abilities
