Job Description Data Centre Engineer (Fresh Graduate)
Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated Data Centre Engineer (Entry-Level) to join our client. This role is ideal for recent graduates with a foundation in computer networks and communications. You will be trained to support the operation and maintenance of data centre systems, while applying your knowledge of communication principles, OSI layers, and data encapsulation concepts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining data centre equipment (servers, switches, routers, cabling, power).
- Apply basic principles of communication to understand how data is transmitted between systems.
- Support troubleshooting at the Physical Layer (cables, connectors, signals) and Data Link Layer (Ethernet, MAC addresses, VLANs).
- Learn and apply the concepts of data encapsulation and decapsulation in real-world networking scenarios.
- Help with cabling, patching, and physical setup of hardware in the data centre.
- Document configurations, incidents, and standard procedures for team knowledge sharing.
- Work alongside senior engineers to resolve escalated network and connectivity issues.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Basic understanding of computer networking and the OSI 7-layer model, with focus on: Physical Layer: cabling, signals, bandwidth & Data Link Layer: Ethernet frames, MAC addresses, VLAN basics.
- Familiarity with data encapsulation/decapsulation (how data is packaged and unwrapped across layers).
- Coursework or project experience with network devices (routers, switches) is a plus.
- Willingness to learn data centre standards (cooling, power, rack management).
- Strong interest in troubleshooting and hands-on infrastructure work.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related field.
- Fresh graduates or candidates with up to 1 year of experience are welcome.
- Networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+) are a plus but not required.
