SAMH manages Insight Centre where counselling services are provided. We provide a helpline and face-to-face counselling for persons with psychiatric, psychological or emotional issues, as well as their families.
Purpose
To develop and operate the counselling service programme so as to meet the needs of the individuals, couples and families with mental health related issues.
Duties of a mental health counsellor include conducting mental health assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, leading individual or group therapy sessions, running preventative mental wellness classes or workshops and making treatment referrals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To provide hybrid approach in counselling (eg, onsite, online, phone) to people with mental health issues, so as to help clients develop insight and effective coping strategies by the use of their own innate capacity and resources available.
2. To engage, support and equip caregivers with skills and knowledge in supporting their loved ones with mental health issues, while practicing good self-care, where possible.
3. To provide information and emotional support through the helpline and email to members of public.
4. To maintain up-to-date records of clients and ensure that all clients records are kept in clients individual case files.
5. To submit required reports, such as monthly reports, half-yearly reports, yearly statistics for annual report to the coordinator on time.
6. To pro-actively recommend streamlined work processes/new projects that are beneficial in developing and enhancing service delivery.
7. To provide case management, when required and approved by Head, Counselling Service
8. To coordinate and compile statistical reports for submission.
9. To take on secondary duties as assigned, which may include the following:
a. To facilitate support groups/psychoeducational groups/therapeutic groups
b. To support volunteers/interns and provide supervision to them as assigned
c. To curate content and conduct training/deliver talks, both internally as well as to external agencies
d. To attend to requests for interviews by media/students as assigned
e. Any other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
. Masters in Counselling
. Keen interest in mental health counselling
. 2 years of relevant experience in social service sector preferred
. Comfortable in counselling in Mandarin
. Matured, independent worker. Able to multi-task (attend to helplines in between admin work)
