Job Description

The Supervisor (Costume Operations) in Creative Costuming oversees the full spectrum of costume operations, ensuring quality and continuity across all shows and events while leading the team in efficient costume issuance, maintenance, and daily operational readiness. Responsibilities include planning costume operations, managing rosters, supervising costume care and cleaning, training junior staff, and identifying development needs. The position also supports costume fittings, collaborates with supervisors to resolve operational issues, and occasionally serves as the primary personincharge of costume operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality and continuity is maintained for all costumed shows and events.
  • Lead and support team members in efficient costume issuance to enable seamless execution of rehearsals, events, and daily show operations.
  • Prepare, plan, and execute operational requirements for small to medium-scale events with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Oversee roster planning to ensure appropriate manpower coverage for daily operations and events.
  • Oversee the daily care and maintenance of costumes, including laundry, drying, steam ironing, and proper handling of inner wear.
  • Supervise costume upkeep and coordinate required maintenance such as hand washing, dry cleaning, fittings, alterations, mending, and other related tasks.
  • Train and guide junior team members in equipment operation, costume dressing, handling techniques, and best practices.
  • Assist in identifying team training needs to support continuous skill development.
  • Uphold and enforce strict compliance with all RWS Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) policies for both staff and external vendors.
  • Attend and support all costume fittings as required by production and show needs.
  • Collaborate with Costuming Supervisors to troubleshoot operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Take on the occasional role of Costuming 1, as the main person-in-charge of costume operations for the day.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma or equivalent with at least 3-4 years of related experience in wardrobe line, media line or theatre line.
  • Thorough understanding of backstage etiquette and the ability to teach others, especially in the context of costume management.
  • Solid understanding of costume construction, maintenance techniques, fabric care methods, quickchange requirements, and dressing protocols.
  • Proficient in managing email correspondence, documenting meeting minutes, taking notes, and following up on reports and action items with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to balance daily operational duties with leadership responsibilities, demonstrating strong time management and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and ownership by keeping the team and management regularly updated, maintaining clear communication and consistent progress reporting.
  • Work well within a team environment and ensure proper handover processes are in place, providing clear documentation for covering supervisors during absences.
  • High attention to detail and precision in ensuring costumes meet show quality and continuity standards.
  • Team player with good interpersonal and people skills.
  • Able to perform shift work, and willing to work during evenings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Able to stand for long hours and work in an environment where there can be hot, humid and wet weather.
