Role Summary
The Cost Estimator (Shipyard) is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for ship repair, conversion, and newbuilding projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective collaboration with engineering, procurement, and project teams to ensure timely and precise tender submissions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimation & Analysis
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracting for ship repair, conversion, and newbuilding projects.
- Review project specifications, technical drawings, and client requirements to define the scope of work accurately.
- Ensure all cost components are documented and comply with industry standards and project requirements.
2. Tender & Quotation Management
- Develop and submit tenders and quotations in response to client requests or bidding opportunities.
- Coordinate with procurement, production, and engineering teams to validate cost inputs and resource availability.
- Revise estimates promptly when project specifications or conditions change.
3. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Department Heads to collect data and confirm technical details.
- Attend tender meetings, site visits, and client discussions as needed.
- Collaborate with Finance and Management for pricing approvals and commercial strategies.
4. Cost Control & Reporting
- Maintain an up-to-date database of labor rates, material costs, and subcontractor pricing.
- Contribute to post-project reviews to enhance future estimation accuracy.
- Support the development of cost-control measures and profitability analysis.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in cost estimation within the shipyard or marine industry.
- Solid understanding of shipbuilding, repair, and conversion processes.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
