Job Description

We are seeking a knowledgeable and patient Computer Science Tutor to provide academic support to students studying Diploma and undergraduate-level Computer Science / Information Technology modules.

The tutor should have a strong foundation in Computer Science, algorithms, data structures, discrete mathematics, systems development, and IT project management. The ability to explain technical and mathematical concepts clearly in both English and Mandarin Chinese is essential.

Key Teaching Areas

The tutor should be comfortable teaching:

Algorithms & Data Structures

Algorithm fundamentals and problem-solving techniques
Abstract Data Types (ADT)
Arrays, lists, stacks and queues
Linked lists
Trees and graphs
Searching and sorting algorithms
Basic algorithm analysis and efficiency

Discrete Mathematics / Computer Science Mathematics

Set theory and set notation
Sets, subsets and power sets
Cardinality
Union, intersection, complement and symmetric difference
Membership tables
Logic and mathematical reasoning
Binary representation and related concepts

Systems Development Techniques

Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Requirements gathering and analysis
Systems analysis and design
Process, data and object modelling
UML and related diagrams
Understanding user and business requirements
CASE tools and system documentation

IT Project Management

Project initiation, planning, execution and closure
Project scope and objectives
Scheduling and resource allocation
Cost and budget considerations
Risk management
Project monitoring and control
IT project documentation

Responsibilities

The tutor will conduct in-person lessons, explain difficult concepts using clear step-by-step examples, guide students through lecture materials and exercises, and provide support for assignments and exam preparation. The tutor should be able to identify gaps in the student's foundation and adjust the teaching approach accordingly.

Requirements

Diploma, Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline
Strong understanding of Algorithms, Data Structures and Discrete Mathematics
Familiarity with Systems Analysis & Design and IT Project Management
Bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese and able to explain technical terminology in both languages
Able to conduct face-to-face lessons in Singapore
Strong communication and teaching skills
Previous tutoring or teaching experience is preferred
Experience teaching SIM Diploma/undergraduate students would be an advantage

Preferred candidate: Someone with a strong Computer Science foundation who can support both the technical/mathematical modules (e.g. Algorithms, Abstract Data Structures and Set Theory) and the applied IT modules (Systems Development and IT Project Management).
