Composite Technician

Job Description & Requirements

. Performs any combination of following tasks to fabricate plastic aircraft missile parts, accessories, and trim according to specifications.

. Carry out cold and hot bonding. Able to perform dry and wet layup.

. Cuts fiberglass or graphite composite cloth to size, following template or blueprints, using cutting machine, scissors, or knife.

. Marks identifying information on material assembles materials in kits for subsequent laminating.

. Applies parting agent to mold or bonding fixture.

. Encases molded laminate in bagging material bleeder cloth, attaches vacuum bagging apparatus, like thermocouples, probes, and vacuum connections, to mold or bonding fixture, and exhausts air from vacuum bag to seal laminate for curing.

. Tests seal on vacuum bagging apparatus, using leak detector.

. Trims, drills, burrs, grinds, sands, and finishes cured parts to specifications, using templates, fixtures, hand tools, and power tools.

. Prefits and assembles cured parts into assemblies or subassemblies, using jigs, fixtures, power tools, and fasteners, like rivets bolts.

. Applies adhesives to surface of assembled parts for bonding in autoclave.

. May assist Plastics Fabricator plastic prod fabricating plastic or composite first article parts and assemblies or parts assemblies involving compound or complex contours, working to close tolerances.

. May tend oven to cure parts.

. May assist Autoclave Operator in loading unloading parts from autoclave.

. May form cure rubber parts, using heat lamps or vacuum molding machine.

. May be designated by type of plastic or specific activity involved as Bagger Composite Assembler Composite Bond Worker Composite Laminator Composite Layup Worker Composite Trim and Drill Worker Kitter Plastic Parts Fabricator-Trimmer Smooth An. Must be able to work shifted Burr Worker, Composites.

. Completed relevant Aircraft Servicing/Maintenance vocational training, local or overseas

. Min 3 years experience

. Min diploma in any field

. Work location is in the east.
