About the Role
The Operations Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient, and commercially optimized execution of voyages for both spot and time-chartered vessels. The role ensures compliance with Charter Party (C/P) requirements, port and terminal regulations, and marine industry standards, while maintaining high operational performance and HSSE standards.
Responsibilities
Voyage & Charter Party Management
- Monitor vessel progress throughout the voyage to ensure compliance with Charter Party (C/P) terms, including speed, bunker consumption, heating requirements, and warranted quantities.
- Provide operational guidance to Masters regarding C/P compliance and voyage optimization.
- Review and verify loadable quantities and complete chartering questionnaires.
- Review load and discharge plans for spot and time-chartered vessels.
- Ensure time-chartered vessels comply fully with C/P warranties and requirements.
- Assist Masters in selecting optimal routing in compliance with C/P terms.
- Arrange weather routing services when necessary.
- Provide timely updates to Charterers on vessel movements to ensure customer satisfaction.
Port, Terminal & Cargo Operations
- Ensure compliance with terminal, port, and marine industry mandatory regulations.
- Advise and assist Masters in preparation for terminal inspections.
- Research, review, and communicate information on new or sensitive ports and terminals.
- Ensure vessel readiness for nominated cargo, including tank cleaning guidance.
- Assist Masters in complying with port and terminal expectations.
- Address and respond to customer complaints and feedback promptly.
Bunkers, Disbursement & Cost Control
- Review and approve bunker stemmed by bunker team to ensure voyage sufficiency.
- Arrange de-slopping when required.
- Evaluate, negotiate, and approve proforma disbursement accounts.
- Ensure proper accounting of voyage and owner disbursements.
- Monitor and control operational costs during voyage execution.
- Ensure funding requirements are properly managed and documented.
Vessel Performance & Compliance
- Monitor, review, and analyze vessel performance and follow up on underperformance.
- Alert Manager/Assistant Manager of operational issues and provide timely updates.
- Address and verify gaps identified in NCRs and inspections.
- Plan, attend, and report findings of vessel inspections and audits.
- Conduct operational briefings for Senior Officers prior to vessel assignment.
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage, coach, and motivate Operations Executives/Senior Executives.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the operations team.
HSSE & Quality Compliance
- Achieve HSSE goals aligned with Company OKRs and KPIs.
- Implement sustainable practices and reduce operational waste.
- Ensure full compliance with HSSE regulations and standards.
- Coordinate with SQV on quality, health, safety, and environmental initiatives.
Qualifications
- Relevant maritime degree or sea-going experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of Charter Party terms and voyage operations.
- Experience in tanker/bulk operations (as applicable).
- Familiarity with port regulations, cargo operations, and bunker management.
- Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
- Leadership and team coaching capabilities.
