The Commercial Analyst supports the APAC commercial accounting and pricing function by helping to prepare financial analysis and insight for the APAC Commercial Accounting Manager, while developing core analytical skills that contribute to informed decision-making by partners and leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Commercial Insight & Financial Performance
- Produce financial and commercial analysis to support decision-making across practices, sectors, and offices within the APAC region.
- Monitor key financial metrics such as revenue, utilization, margin, and lock-up, flagging any concerns to the Commercial Accounting Manager and senior stakeholders.
- Lead performance analysis across sectors, practice groups, and clients to help identify drivers of profitability.
- Own and develop financial models to support planning and strategic decisions.
Sector, SIG and International Reporting
- Lead the delivery of Sector reporting, providing high-level analysis to Heads of Sector, working closely with the Commercial Accounting Manager.
- Drive consistency and comparability of reporting across sectors and geographies, identifying and resolving gaps in methodology or presentation.
Pricing and Matter Profitability
- Lead financial analysis and modelling to support pricing discussions, providing well-reasoned recommendations to partners and leadership.
- Own matter budgeting, tracking, and post-matter profitability analysis, identifying and communicating trends in pricing and matter performance to drive commercial outcomes.
Power BI, AI and Reporting Development
- Support the development and improvement of Power BI reports, working with the BI & Insights team.
- Drive simplification and standardization of reporting across practice groups and sectors, championing consistency and clarity.
- Identify and apply AI tools to enhance the quality, efficiency, and delivery of financial reporting and analysis, and lead efforts to automate routine reporting tasks and improve the accessibility of insight across the firm.
Training and Knowledge Sharing
- Assist in the preparation of training materials for junior associates and trainees on key profitability drivers, including the associate timekeeper report.
- Contribute to building financial awareness across the firm by sharing insight and best practice.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to senior audiences.
- Proven experience in profitability analysis, pricing, and financial modelling, with demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outputs.
- Advanced Excel skills and hands-on experience building and maintaining Power BI reports.
- Experience in a professional services or law firm environment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and drive implementation with minimal supervision, while remaining a collaborative and supportive team member.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A track record of continuous learning and the ability to quickly acquire new technical and commercial skills.
